Frame Rate Drops to 0 in MA
« on: December 07, 2001, 11:52:00 AM »
Hello the 1st. 3 weeks in AH have been GREAT up until yesterday.  When I log onto the runway from the hanger in MA (Main Arena) my frame rate drops to 0.  My system configuration is as follows:

PII450 DELL
384 MEGS RAM
Diamond VIPER V770 ULTRA (Latest NVIDIA XP detonator drivers)
DirectX 8.1
RW (latest version running in background)
AOL 7.0
Turtle Beach Montego2 Sound Card (Old drivers) Like 1999 version
IE 6.0
Windows ME operating system
US Robotics Gaming Modem (Dial up connection) Latest drivers

I have everything shut down except systray, explorer, RW, Ramidle, and terminator (2 keep AOL from logging me off).
Granted I have never run a very high frame rate in the game usually about 25-27 in 1024X768 32 bit color, in game.  However offline I run about 33 FPS.  And I also went into the training arena and ran 30FPS consistently, 33FPS offline.
I do have a new GEFORCE 2 Titanium 64MEG video card due in anytime that I just bought to play this game to raise my frame rate.  I am hoping its just my video card going belly up.  Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!  I am 1 of the AW3 refugees, and have started a squad that I can no longer fly with due to this problem.  I LOVE THIS GAME!  Possibly my problem could be an overloaded Internet?  If you require anymore info please ask.  LOL I am going crazy not being able to play!  Thank you for your time! >>>S<<<
                       Regards,                                                     ZuLuSiX
CO of the "Angels Of Death"

PS: ACES HIGH ROX!  Can't believe it took me this long to find you guys. Also my frame rate is about 15FPS in field gun & PT boat, thats all I can even do with current frame rate prob.

I wouldn't reckommend using latest Detonator XP drivers with WinME and TNT card.

TNT's work fastest with older versions.

You are pretty much CPU limited as that PII450 can't generate enough clock cycles to keep the graphics smooth. You probably won't see a huge improvement in FPS even if you get the new display card. OTOH, the t&l engine might take load off your CPU if AH makes use of it, I'm not sure.

The fix was very simple but a bit time consuming.  After trying everything suggested plus a few.  I simply deleted the game totally from my computor and reloaded everything.  Sheeeeesh all those head positions, & gun convergence settings!  But hey it got me back up!  Hopefully this will help some other newbie's frustration as it did mine! Again TY 4 the responses and help! >>>S<<<

Lots of guys seem to still be having this problem.  And I periodically have its ugly head reappear!  Is there anyone else out there having this problem?  TY 4 any input.

ZuluSix ......
I agree what Mr. Riply say ..>
TNT's work fastest with older versions.

I have a copy of the orginal 4.02's .. if you want them.
BTW .. I have the same card and I have a Overclocking program that I use sometimes with my Viper

Same problem as ZuluSix.  It started a day or so after he told me he was having a problem.  I don't get all the way to 0, 2-3 fps at worst, this down from a norm of 55-65 fps.

P3-933
512MB RAM
GeForce2 32MB DDR (ASUS V7700)
WinXP
Roger Wilco - last good version mk1c
SB-Live
T1/56K CIR Internet feed for LAN.

The problem developed within a few days of the latest patch.  I am attempting Zulu's fix of downloading and re-installing.  Previous version of AH worked great.

I have noticed that it is exceptionally bad in the P51D right on the runway!  But when any other aircraft get within 200" my FPS drops to 0 for 2-3 seconds!  No matter what A/C I am, flying.  And I never had this problem until the last patch.  AH tech please read this and help.   TY

As you all have probably noticed my nose art file was evidently causing the frame rate drop as noted by AH in MA tower.  I am sorry for any inconveniance this has caused.  I submitted this nose art file to AH & it was approved by AH.  Evidently they didn't have the software to detect it was only 62X64 256 color, nor did I have the software to detect the discrepency.  There was never any ill intent by me, or the artist that created the nose art for my squad. AH has created a fine game and I feel TERRIBLE that I have hindered anyones enjoyment for the last week.  You all need to delete zulusix noseart from your    C:\Program Files\HTC\Aces High\squads
I did this as recomended by AH and this cured my frame rate drop.  Hope no one feels ill will towards me or any of my squad members.  I suspect there will be hard feelings, and I am strongly considering disbanding my squad. GOODHUNTING!

Um, I am/was having this problem ... and a simple reboot has fixed it for me.  Each time I have the problem, I reboot and thus fur 2 for 2 insofar as fixing the FR loss.

Another cause of this is incorrectly sized gunsights.

They HAVE to be either 32x32, 64x64, 128x128 or 256x256

Can be found in your sights folder
