EW planes in LWA's.
« on: March 07, 2007, 12:12:44 PM »
A squaddie of mine pointed out on the squad forum that he's seeing a lot of early war cons in the late war arenas. He notes that he was HOed by a 109E-4 that took his tail off (or something).

I think this is a good thing. It means the folks that used to be new are branching out. They're getting past the stage where they can only fly the latest-war "uber planes". I commend you for this effort. I also like early war planes.

Of the early war planeset, those that can still be fun to fly in the late war arenas include:

Hurr1
Spit1
109E-4
109F-4
A6m2
P-40s

The SpitV is already common enough, which is why I didn't suggest it.

The Hurr1 is a particularly fun aircraft. It's not really that competitive, but it can be a blast. I got 5-6 kills in it defending an airfield against a massive CV onslaught once. I was 10 feet off the runway (landing) and got vulched by 5" flak (the dweeb reject in the guns had been trying to do it for 40 minutes at this point).

The 109E-4 can actually perform very well against a wide range of aircraft. If you're in a 1 v 1 you've got a chance. In a multiple con situation it helps to have a wingman. Had a squaddie and myself in 109E-4s and we held off (and killed) quite a number of enemy aircraft. Unfortunately we were too close to the enemy field and more were upping before we could disengage and get out of Dodge. We both died, but it was a productive sortie.

So, enjoy the EW aircraft. Try others as well. I noticed a lot of folks flying C2s last night. I even saw a Ki-61 here and there.

For those that this post applies to, congrats on taking one step further on your learning curve!

It means ENY has finally kicked in. That's all it means.

Yeah Krusty, seeing alot of that too, and enjoy those rides as well.  I would add the FW 190 A5 to the list, as it is competitive in any arena if flown toward its strengths and away from it's limitiations, as goes with any plane.  Also, blow off at least half your MG ammo to lighten up the nose, and this plane comes to life.

Your entire load of 7mms in the A-5 only weights 117lbs. Shooting off half of it only saves you less than 60lbs. On a 8500lb airframe there's no noticable effect for shooting the ammo off. It's a placebo effect :p

I didn't think of the A-5, because I see that quite often, and it's more of a mid war plane. I only listed some of the more entertaining early war planes. It's by no means a complete list, and I encourage all to branch out and try new aircraft, from any time frame!

I can think of two reasons:

ENY kicked in, as stated above.

More players than I thought read the boards and have seen the postings about how many perks you can earn in high ENY planes as compared to the low ENY planes.

It's great to see more EW planes used in LW!

Personally, I hated the 109's until I spent some time in the F in the EW and now it is one of my favorite rides.:D

Bucky: Wait til the next skin pack! You'll have more options for it then!

Stampf: It's all perception, so whatever works! If you feel "better" in a plane, chances are you fly better. I personally can NEVER get enough ammo :rofl so I keep 'em.

I also wanted to point out the F4F-4. It's a very capable plane. It's an early war aircraft, but has 6x 50cals (same as late ware US rides) and turns very well. It has no WEP but neither does the zero.

I don't want to go on just listing aircraft, there are enough threads like that already. I will suggest that some early war bombers can out turn almost any aircraft in the game in a turn fight. Also you can still get kills with 7mms if you're 200 yards off the enemy and they can't evade you! SBD, TBM, Ju87, D3a, all of these have forward guns and turn very well. Think about it if you want to try something new.

Yeah they are great.

I just wish he would make me a II/JG11 skin like the one he made on the 190 A5.  Only this time for a 109 G6 for the rest of my squaddies...:aok

I believe im the Squaddie Krusty reffered to. So far in LW blue, ive been HOed by a 109E (though i survived and he legged it) Had my tail blown off by a Spit 1, and just today had a knife fight for about 2-3 minutes in a huge Furball by A1 with a Hurri 1. Made it interesting as I was also in HMK1. Finally stopped when I had a F4U hit my wing off. (P.s Anybody know of a Hurricane Mk1 who was flying around there at any time, let me know. I want to thank him for a bril fight.) I think its amazing to see so many EW planes, and its proving that the EW planes can stand up to, and in some cases win, against the 'Uer dweeb rides' such as the Spit 16, Lala and niki. LONG LIVE EW!

I'd have a better chance in running into a Dodo Bird in the middle of rush hour, walking down the I-5 with two hookers in tow before I see a useful post from glock89- Ack-Ack

It just really means folks want to fly with the largest amount of other players as they can.

:aok

Long live LW ;)
