Haven't done the Lifetime member thing yet, rather I re-sign for 3 years whenever my membership is coming due.  Still waiting to see if I won the Tom Selleck Quigley rifle.   :)

No fear of weapons here, we're just leery of some of the bats**t crazy owners.

The elected representatives of the Republic of Kalifornia have banned the .50 caliber rifle. Barretts main product.  It scares them.

When the LAPD sent .50 cal rifles to Barrett for repair, Ronnie Barrett refused to service the rifles, then told the LAPD he wouldn't ship them back into California, they would have to send someone to get them, and that is what they had to do.

Good for him.

yeah flatbar... most liberals are afraid of the people... maybe that is why everyone in big cities is so unfriendly.

The ar is not my idea of a good design.. it craps where it eats.   Still.. keep it clean and it is ok.. the caliber is weak.

The one I am tempted to get is the .50 beowulf conversion for ar.

The 6.8 sounds tempting tho.

Robinson arms is supposed to be coming out with a 6.8mm version of their xcr rifle which looks like a better weapon than an ar with the m468 upper. I'm not fond of the ar15 design either.  Arsenal makes probably the best of the most modern ak variants which run in the $500-$900 new. AKs are good rifles but the ergonomics are god awful.

There's another caliber of upper for the ar that shoots something as big as the 50 beowulf but the ammo is cheaper, I can't recall the caliber.

And only $1,300, that's cheaper than the m468 which is only half of a rifle.

458 socom is the caliber I was trying to think of. But honestly, if I wanted that kind of hand howitzer power from an assault rifle I think I would just get a saiga 12ga.

Wrong answer. I don't want anything in 5.56. If I wanted to have a pop gun then I would join the military and get my hands on one that way.

OH and BTW today there was an excellent decision in Washington D.C....The home of our DEMOCRAT led congress.

These judges actually decided that the 2nd Amendment means something instead of being used as an ACLU/Democrat launching pad for arguments.

Then buy the 6.8mm spc version of it, or even the 308. Spaz.

I'd be more interested in the round if the ammo was actually available. Does anyone have actual documentation of military trials for either the weapon or round? I remember the furor over the "new" heavier projectile ammo but haven't seen much of anything on either this rifle or ammo yet.

I'm still a fan of the .308 (7.62 Nato) anyhow. It's a good round even in a "carbine" sized weapon. One of my favorite rifles to shoot is a Remington 600 in .308 more so that my bull barreled Ruger in the same cartridge.

For civilian weapons, which are nearly all semi-automatic, wouldnt 7.62mm be optimum?

That's a hard question to answer and will surely spawn plenty of "discussion". ;)

The truth is, it all depends on what you want to do with it. There are plenty of good choices. 7.62 NATO is a tough choice right now because the ammo market isn't being very cooperative, although the cartridge is accurate and powerful.

Personally, I'm currently spoiled on the 5.45mm 7N6 round. I just think it's neato.

Yes it is.  Nothing beats my pair of Garands (except for ejection problems on the second one).
