Another RW Glitch
« on: July 03, 2000, 07:22:00 AM »
I have a DSL modem. To use RW in the arena I have to ask one of my squad mates to minimize and get the AH RW IP address. Then I have to minimize and change my RW IP to the AH one. Seems every time AH starts my RW it defaults to my DSL IP address. The process works but is some what of a drag. Any ideas?

Don't know the answer to that one Weave, but I have a problem with not being able to maintain the ability to transmit. I can always hear but I continualy loose the ability to transmit. If I restart rw then I can transmit for a bit then it goes away. I am using the .54 beta as was recomended. Never have had a problem with rw before this and have been using it since the first available version.

Weave, what channel is selected in radio box 5 when that happens?

When you start AH, two things can happen to RW:

1- if channel 1 is selected in radio 5, then no rw channel is selected. If you had joined a rw channel before loading ah, then ah makes rw leave it.

2- if some channel > 100 is selected in radio 5, what will happen depends on if someone is already on that radio channel
a) someone on the channel: ah makes you join the existing rw channel
b) noone on the channel: ah makes your rw host a rw channel

If you have problems joining a rw channel from within ah, try tuning .radio 5 1 then .radio 5 the desired channel again.

Personally, I found user-hosted rw channels to be unreliable. Everyone in my Wing has been using the Resounding RogerWilco Base Station for 8-9 months with great satisfaction (see this thread). (I've seen the servers fail only twice during that time. Kudos Resounding!)

Of course now that means loading ah first, then tuning .radio 5 1 to disable in-game rw tuning, then alt-tabbing to the desktop to select the desired rw channel on the Resounding RWBS.

Eventually, I guess HTC will host their own RWBS software and base the in-game rw channels on it, but for now they're too short-handed (I'm amazed that they can accomplish so much with so few) and maybe they should wait until they can provide a bigger bandwidth (i.e. until they have a bigger user base and less freeloaders).

Mark, which transmit key are you using?

Some people are reporting problems with keys like ~, or control, etc.

I found F11 and F12 are not assigned any function in AH. I strongly suggest using either key as AH voice transmit key ("Key Mic").

We have channel 197 selected for radio 5. I've also noticed that in 1.02 when we used RW we were able to hear each other quite well as the volume levels of voice to eng. noise was higer. Now in 1.03 the levels are matched and it's much tougher to hear one another.

As far as the volume level goes as soon as a new version comes out I always go into sound and reset it if it has changed.

I set engine volume about half way or a bit higher and then hits, damage, explosions and the rest to near high or about where they are.  This way you will easily hear the weakest RW pilot as well as the other sounds. Experiment a bit with the level you like.
