who would like open/close function for canopy?
« on: March 08, 2007, 08:18:20 PM »
i would.
it would also mean maybe that to bail out you must first open your canopy.
that would also give us another damage option 'canopy jammed' so that you couldnt bail out. Im sure that happened quite alot in real life

been asked before i know, this is more a sort of poll to who would like it.

Open canopies?

It's coming, along with the new planes.

Two weeks I think I heard.

Hell yes.

The Spitfire's seat could also be rasied once the canopy is open, so the pilot has a much better view over the nose on landing. Would make those Seafire carrier traps a lot easier, IMO.

You have that already in WW2 Online...  Only reason the canopy opens is so your avatar/toon/character/virtual self can climb in it to fly, and back out of it when you land...  or bail.

Neat effect, but not really game enhancing at all unless AH becomes another FPS in disguise of a flight sim.

I would like to see opening canopy together with ability to move head outside current limits if canopy opened. But it must affect aerodynamics (max speed in first place) so it not so easy im afraid.

hmm aerodynamics, good point, i geuss that would mean remodeling every plane as different planes have different ammounts of drag when canopy is open. (P51 open canopy wont drag as much as P38 canopy for instance, im geussing.)

thats a definite down side and i geuss thats why HTC havnt already done it.

I'd love to see it, if for no other reason then for landing with an oil splattered windscreen.

But as was posted to do it right would me remodeling all the planes for cockpit open. Thats a huge job.

On the condition that I can decapitate your little cartoon piwot with a well placed round. [unreal announcer voice]HEADSHOT![/unreal announcer voice]

I like the idea of damaged canopies making the widdle guys burn or ride the wreck in, but I don't think our enthusiasm for a wider variety of carnage will be enough to get HT and company to redo it.

All it would take is someone complaining of the "con's wing" entered my open canopy, and "he did it deliberately."

You wouldnt want to open canopy with oil splattering from engine, i guess :huh

I think this would be more something we would see out of ToD. I would think it would be implemented into the game to work with fighters who are at high altitude on patrol or aiding bombers to their targets. From what I hear, HTC is trying to make ToD VERY realistic, so I would guess there would be your occasional oxygen failure meaning you would have to dive. Once you're below 5,000 feet and at a resonable speed, pop open that canopy and get some fresh air.

It would also be something I could see the TBM's using in Midway scenarios. Or A6M's and D3A's in Pearl Harbor Scenarios. You didn't go the whole way with a canopy shut, the darn bombers were so slow you could afford to keep the canopy open on that A6M.
