Rockfire ps2 to usb adapter
« on: December 09, 2001, 08:02:00 AM »
I was wondering if anyone can tell me if you have to have a powered hub to plug in the Rockfire USB adapter. Are can you just plug it into usb port on puter?
Westy had a comment on the Rockfire in another thread, but didn't mention how he set it up.
Thanks for any replies in advance.

It depends on your stick setup.  If you are using a programmable throttle like the analog CH Pro Throttle, then you have to connect the Rockfire directly to the USB port on the computer.  If you go through a hub, you'll get KB errors on bootup up the ying-yang and the Pro Throttle won't be recognized.  I've got my Rockfire plugged directly into the computer USB port for that reason.

Yup. Sorry Dobe I forgot to add that the Rockfire USB-Gameport adapter was plugged directly into one of my two mother board USB connectors. I don't even have a hub.

Even so I occasionally get the "keyboard not  seen" problem. A full power shut down (power strip completely turned off. no power to pc at al) for about 5 minuites usually clears that.

Instead of the 5 minute wait, just turn off the computer and remove the Pro Throttle PS/2 passover from the computer's PS/2 port and then plug it back in.  Do a hard reset on boot up and it should work again.  Don't know why it works but it does.

I just installed the Rockfire today. I was getting the ( 0301 PS/2 keyboard error or not connected ) message. Found that if I unpluged the PS/2 adapter and repluged it in keyboard would work fine. After some testing and research I found in the F-16 Fighter stick instructions. Under my keyboard is not recognized etc. #2 states " you are not using a programmable keyboard". Sooo... I replaced the keyboard with a non-programable one and booted. I still got the error above, but after the desk top loaded a hit the number lock twice and the key board works. No unpluging and rebooting.
Now that's about as far as I can go here but if someone knows how to stop the error from coming up I believe the keyboard will boot just fine. I checked the computer I got the keyboard off of and the drivers are the same as on the one I use.
I had on the orginal keyboard a set of instant access keys and in control panel that is a seperate icon from the keyboard. Could this be the cause of the error? I don't want to remove them until I'm sure that is it but I feel that it maybe.
 Any and all input accepted.

Ok I just installed the keyboard from this machine onto the old computer. The system booted up fine with no errors. So it's looking more like the rapid access program to me.
Should also add that I deleted and reinstalled the drivers for this old keyboard with no change on boot up. Still got the error.
