Plane stats
« on: March 11, 2007, 11:59:02 AM »
I like Doc Gonzo's site and Soda's evaluations but there's one major stat that's missing from both that I wish someone had the time to add.  That's compression point.

I find the only thing that gets me in trouble (well, not the ONLY thing) or keeps me from using everthing a plane that's new to me has is that I don't know where, or how much it will compress.

I've augered far too many planes finding this out on my own, most recently the Ki-84 and the BF-110 although once I figured it out in the Ki-84 I really like the plane (I still don't know what the point of compression is, only that I need to roll out of the throttle on the way down).

Maybe we could use our combined knowledge and post the ones we all know here.  I know alt will play a role but even generalizations would be better than nothing.  I'd be more than happy to consolidate them at the end.

I'll start with the FW190's.  Most of them compress at around 500 ias.  They begin shaking terribly and can't be flown much beyond that point although they can be held there and still remain reasonably responsive.  The exception is the Ta152 which compresses much sooner (25-50 mph).
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
