I tried WinXP in my computer but went back to W2k 'cause (At least in my case) XP Pro and SBLive did not like each others.
Had to change that Live! to Terratec's soundcard which fixed my problems with sounds and joystick in WinXP but same time that swap brought couple new problems... So I went back to W2K and SBLive! and everything works fine  :)

Windows XP is not the OS to use to play AH.  Use 2K, Me, or 98 and 95....they all work well.  Also, sound might be using shared IRQ, check to see if that's the problem.  If so.....move soundcard etc to another pci slot of different address.

Hi Keegan,
As the problem is only engine sounds, (and you have checked the "eng.wav" file to make sure A). It exists B). It has the volume set correctly). Can you either post details of or links to the files "sound.cfg" & "sound2.cfg" from you AH setting folder?

After updating the drivers for the creative live card there is indeed something wrong with the system. Its not an "Upgrade" its a root install of XP, think I may either have a virus, or a corrupted system file,.....which I will not root out. System is telling me its time to pull the OS off.

Thanks for the help guys, time to rid the thing of XP.

Keegan I really don't see what's your beef, lack of engine sounds doesn't stop you from playing anyway.
HTC is known for their fast customer service but it seems that the influx of new players has got them swamped at the moment. If you haven't noticed, the player base has grown from 2000 to 3000 in a short period of time. All those AW'ers are probably asking them everything possible about everything.

If it's your own workstation, fine. I still wouldn't use a company machine for gaming

Keegan it seems that you made changes to your system (including upgrading to XP from W2k which seems senseless to me) and that caused you to have this problem. Don't blame HTC if you porked your own system. I suggest you take time to root out the problem yourself. The problem might be with soundcard device driver incompatability with XP for example. If you're using a built-in driver, don't expect much since XP just came out of beta and with MS reputation will need at least 1x100Mb service pack to be in working condition.

If you don't want to do that, that's fine too.. Nobody forces you to play the best online air combat simulation. Suite yourself.

But trust me: It's your loss.

FIXED!

Cable shorting out!

And yes I need my engine sounds.

The cable was shorting out on the end. It would allow some frequencies of the audio range to be clear, and others to be very VERY low, which is why some sounds were perfect, and engine sounds were non existant. They were there just not audible. Windows Sounds didnt change which might mean the 3d sounds in AH werent getting what they needed from both input channels to be able to be audible.
