If I was only a few hours drive away form you I'd have liked to join you out there.  I've had a jones for an M1 for a while now.  But to be able to fire that with a K.98 at the same time would be worth the drive.  Ummm, that is if you were offering.  :D

If you were within weekend driving distance it could be fun. You could use the range since you have a .gov ID card. If you pass thru sometime drop me a line and you're on.

Tell her you're going to tour the Jack Daniels distillery. She won't want to go on a trip like that, so we'll be free to go to Nashville after shooting. Bring plenty of $1 bills.

From what I hear, they are damn near out of Garands at the CMP.

However, they are getting shipments of M1 Carbines soon (from what I hear).

Any veteran can get access to CMP rifles pretty easily.  The rest of us have to work a little harder.

WW2 day at the range! As expected, the M1 easily outpaced the 98k despite firing some nasty Korean surplus from the 70s. I didn't score any hits at 500 like I had hoped to, but 400 was pretty easy. I didn't score any hits past 300 as expected with the 98k. (It hits about a foot to the left at 200 and I've never bothered drifting the sight.)

The 98k is a 1939 code 42 and the M1 is a late production run with SN in the 7 millions.

About 200 rounds downrange today in nice weather plus the usual shop talk with the other shooters.

Hey VOR, how long have you been at 101st?

I was there 90-96, 1-101 Avn.

PLEASE tell me you got to eat at Franks Hamburgers on Franklin street.

Is Clarksville still car dealerships with 21% interest and Krystel Burgers?

I had some good times there.

Interesting photos.  Here's a naive question for you: Is all long-range shooting via tripods, sandbags, or other gun rests?  At what distance do you generally go that way instead of offhand shooting?

Halo, that really depends on the size of the target. The targets I shoot at on this range are about 3 feet tall and 1.5 feet wide, so standing fire is viable to 300 or so. It'll even make you look good sometimes. :D Personally speaking, for distances beyond that an unsupported position with open sights gets iffy. It's good practice though and I should be doing it more than I am.

Tapakeg, I've been here a little over 4 years. Never been to that burger joint. I'll have to look into it. Yes to the car dealerships..and pawn shops..and check cashing joints..and bad $5 Mexican restaurants. Towns like this may change ownership of commercial property, but they never change.
