Pirate4x4 members are kindergarten-minded. They think they are special because they swear and cuss in most posts. The welding posts I have seen are enough for me to disavow any usefulness of them.
Personally, IF he is looking at a lift this is the ONLY one I'd consider and he'd only get 33" tires on it. The cool thing is "yeah, I have 33's". But,
if he starts going off road, the front CVU's will NOT last long. They are $81 a side, PLUS anything else that goes with it. That is the drawback with IFS. Personally, I'd try and talk him out of it.
The below kit with shock boots, extended brake lines, and steering stabilizer is $768 without shipping. $852 with shipping to CO.
4" Lift KitFWIW, I had a 1996 Eddie Bauer F-150 4x4 and was in talks with Dynatrac to get Dana 60's F & R. I would have gotten $2,000 dollars off of the axles because they WANTED me to drive out to CA. and do this swap. I was looking at a 6" lift and going to 35's. Four Wheeler magazine editors were salivating over me spending $6,000 to do it. All I would have needed were 78-79 Bronco control arms and mounts. But, my sanity got a hold of me, and I didn't figure it was worth the cost, just like your buddy.
I love my 83 CJ7 and blew the 304 back in January. I'll be getting a very good 304 for $200 in a couple of weeks. My plan is to go to 35's. I chirp the 33's in all gears right now. 4:27 gear ratio's are too much for a 33" tire.
