Im having weird problems with the varience in-game.  The graph shows it all over the place, like a mountain ridgeline-it maxes out at the top, then dives to the bottom, and everywhere in between.  I tried some searches on the BB but havent found anything yet that helps me.

In addition to the odd varience I have weird periods of what i can only describe as "slow motion" where everything slows down for a few seconds.  It doesnt seem to do any "catching up" afterward, just goes back to normal speed. I notice it mostly when im around a base or ships, or when im in a fight (of course). Sometimes when im just by myself in transit, the problems seem to go away.

I can run the game just fine (relatively) on an older system of mine, on the same connection, so I dont think thats it; it has to be something on this laptop. (i know i know, laptops no good for gaming, but surely it can do better than this) Ive tried it direct connected to the modem with no firewalls, to no effect, so I dont think thats it.

When I log on to the arenas i get pings of around 50, which seems pretty healthy, and the host queue stays steady.

I have my background processes trimmed down to about 25. I guess I could go further, but it seems to be running clean.  CPU runs between 0-2% mostly.

Im not running any kind of file sharing.

I turned off all the preloading for the vid card, and lowered the textures, turned of the optimized settings, still to no effect. Antialiasing and Anisowhatever filtering off.  It kind of feels like a video card issue,so I tried getting different drivers, but I cant find support for this laptop Nvidia GF go6600.  I tried some "aftermarket" ones, but after removing the old ones and installing the new ones Windows wouldn't load, so I system restored.

Where do I go from here? Thanks

i had this same problem for 6 months .mine had to do with a csrss.exe file in my processes.  try to delete ur user account on ur computer and start a new one. delete old one .  fixed mine, hope it helps

I'm having this same problem.
I'm going to reinstall the game.
If that doesn't work, I'm going to update my sound drivers.
I have an audigy 2 sound card.

kermit did you have any luck with that?
I pulled out my audigy and installed it, re-installed the game, still no luck.
it did run marginally better for a while, but again, when i get too close to a base or get into a fight it goes crazy again.

Jnuk, I fixed my problem.

I concluded that my motherboard was bad for AH.  It worked for almost a year, but for whatever reason doesn't like AH anymore. :(

So, I got a new mobo and had to get new HD's, RAM, Vid card to work with the new motherboard. :)

a bunch of us had the mountian top variance issue a year ago or so , never found the solution , but if you let it sit for a few minutes it would go away . It would happen at the start of online play, then smooth it's self out  .  I reformated countless times and changed out just about every piece of harware i had , never found the issue .   Now since going to dual core i've yet to see it again ,
