Took my 8 year old (to be 9 in June) daughter hog hunting this week a couple of days for Spring break. She has hunted various game with me in the past but as an observer. We started planning this hunt in back in January and at that time she told me she wanted to actually hunt this time. Anyway, I researched, talked to other hunters, and finally decided on a NEF Handi-Rifle Youth Version in 243.
A local gunsmith cut the stock down even more to fit her, added a nice recoil pad, and dropped the trigger from 7-8 down to 4-5 lbs. She practiced with me at the range and, while not a super tight pattern, she could put 3 out of 3 consistently in the bullseye at 100 yards.

She dropped this 200+ lber with a nice heart/lung shot at about 75 yards using Federal 100 gr Nosler Partition ammo. We had practiced either a heart/lung or head shot. She was shooting from a rest inside a blind and only had about 4 seconds to acquire and take the shot.

Dropped the meat off this morning at a local processor for various sausages and tenderloin cuts.
