Better throttle/brake idea for Gv's
« on: March 19, 2007, 06:57:07 PM »
im wondering if we could have more control of how much throttle/brakes u apply in Gv's ..and possibly have the idea of throttle and turret Up/down action being  on different Axis

is this already possible?

Thanks:aok

<== thinks gas/brake should be able to be mapped to different axis. ie...pedals or joystick throttle.

This used to be possible, at least the amount of throttle and brakes you could apply. Until about 4 updates ago when the "auto driver" was revealed. Ever since then, accelerating a little will give the "auto driver" the go for full power. And braking, well, it just doesn't happen since the auto-driver keeps accelerating until you drop below a particular RPM.

As it is when you push the stick left, you turn left with both treads still moving. Realistically, they jerk and lurch left, as one of the treads stops moving intermitently until the vehicle is facing a new direction. This would depend on the forward speed of the vehicle in question.

How about pushing the stick left locks the left tread? That way even at slow speeds you could pivot in place, instead of driving forward and back like a jeep.

yea i'd like the tanks to feel more like tanks driving..and not like oversized jeeps:D

and this "auto Driver" how about a option to disable that:noid

can we also have the ability like in Pt boats to Gun the engine in Neutral :D
could use that to make it so the enemy doesn't hear your teammates tank moving to a better spot:D

And then once we got the pedal to the floor in the tank, just slide it into gear and do one cool looking tank burnout!!!!!!!!!!:aok  or perhaps just destroy some needed parts of the drive train

How about just mapping the c and v keys to left and right track brakes.  Same keys you use in a plane to wheel brake.  Then when you hit one that track just stops.

At least a reasonable compromise although it would require two different programs to run tracked vehicles differently from wheeled vehicles, thus taking time away from other development.  The way it is now one size fits all for vehicles.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.

It shouldn't take that long.
You just need to add three buttons:  brake left, brake right, and invert torque for those GVs that had such a function.

As it is, rotating tanks is a lot slower than they were in reality (those that had torque break and torque invert), and is definitely a big tactical impact in practice, e.g. when you need to rotate on a hill's incline.

It is at least as worthy of modeling as correct flap speed in the F4Us and F6F, etc.
I think it is more important than that, probably of the same importance as correct elevator authority modeling in planes.
