Saitek X52 2 questions
« on: March 20, 2007, 10:41:56 AM »
I just got my new X-52 set. I'm trying to keep it simple and not install the software to map the keys. I've mapped most of the buttons and controls via AH but there are 2 things I can't map. I'm set up with stick on right hand and throttle on left hand.

1) On the throttle piece, there's a little wheel right under the index finger that is also a button if pressed. I can't map that.

2) Still on the throttle, the slider approximately under your thumb. I can't map it either.

Hopefully there's a way to use em without software.

ASLO..... can u guys give me suggestions/ideas on what to map and where? I never had so many choices before !!! :)

Thanks.

I *THINK* you have to have the mapper to get the wheel button to work, otherwise it will act like your regular mouse wheel . The slider is an axis if i remember right so you can use it for rpm or as a 2nd throttle .  Do'nt take this as gospel , i havent used one in awhile.

I like the X45 throttle better than the X52 throttle. I use it with the X52 stick as a hat went bad on the X45 stick.
My mappings on the X52 stick are:
both trigger settings fire both weapons
pinkie switch is wep
lower hat are views
upper hat zoom on/off toggle - zoom in/out
button under cover is fire secondary
upper right button is raise flap
lower right button is lower flap
I don't use the wheel on the right
T1 up is start/stop eng - I dont use the other T buttons
The thumb flap button is toggle combat trim

I was running a Saitek profile for the X45 throttle but now just have it programmed in AH.

Since I have Windows Vista - NOTHING works of course!! LOL
****ing Microsoft!

Without the software, I can't map that wheel (didn't know it was a button
also - thanks). The Slider is an Axis so you have some options. I use it as
the Wheel Brakes.

Here's what I did:
First mappped the Pinky Button = Mode Button (1,2,3,4)

Mode 1: Normal (Flight/Combat/Navigation)
Mode 2: Misc. (Fuel/Views/etc)
Mode 3: Engine Mgmt & Bombing
Mode 4: Vehicles

--------------------------------------------------------------------
========== Mode 1 - FS ==============

Trigger - 1st click=Primary / 2nd click=ALL
under "SAFE" - Secondary
C - Select

A - Autopilot
B - Map / Clipboard
Top Hat - Text Radio = Squad/Range/Country/Mission
Btm Hat - VOX Radio = Channel or Squad/Range &
Expand Text Window

T1/T2 - Hook/Gear
T3/T4 - Film/Check6
T5/T6 - Flaps up/Flaps down

========== Mode 1 - TH ==============

E - Damage Display (emergency)
D - WEP
Slider - Wheel Brakes
Big Rotery - Rudder Trim
Sm Rotery - Elevator Trim
Hat - Up/Down = Flaps & Left/Right = RPMs
--------------------------------------------------------------------

I'm not going to go into 2, 3 and 4 - experiment. I try and map things so
they're easy to remmber. For Example:
E - is for Emergency / Eject / Engine Start & Stop (Mode 1,2,3-4)

note: I also use an Infrared Traking System for Views, so that frees up my
8 Hat buttons for the Radio.

Good luck friend! :aok

Its button 31 and yes u can map it

Slider is an axis.  You can use it as throttle if you want.

Not exactly.....

The issue with the "i" button OR aka button 31 is the Saitek profile software traps or hooks the button and does not pass the messages on. Saitek intended the button to be used to switch profiles on the fly...

So you cannot program it in AH IF THE SAITEK software is running. That having been said, if one wants to run their profile software and map button 31 then they will have to dig into the registry and swap the internal Saitek button mapping with a different button. The most common choice is the Reset button on the throttle which is the far right button below the LCD.

Follow this procedure to accomplish this task:

i)open registry (start>run>regedit [press OK])
ii)search for "AviemoreCltBtn" without quotes with the following parameters:
"search for value" and "match the whole string only".
iii)By default the values are:
in decimal: 30 or hexadecimal:1e
change it to
in decimal: 29 or hexadecimal:1d
!!!you may find multiple instances, so do it for every one!!!
iv)Close the registry, unplug from USB and plug back the stick.
You are done. Now the clutch button is moved to RESET and "i button" is free to be assigned.

saitekforum.com

It should be noted that you will still not be able to  program this button[31] in the Saitek profiler...however...its recognition and assignment are available within the game.

FINALLY...There is very little reason at all to run the Saitek profile software. The only reason whatsoever is if you have a program that is hooking or trapping a keystroke and you want emulate a keystroke with a Saitek button.

A for instance would be using Track IR....By default TIR uses F12 to re-center itself. TIR traps all instances of the keystroke and does not pass the message through to any other applications...meanwhile it waits patiently for keystrokes flowing through the message ques...

AH on the other hand does not provide a method to emulate keystrokes via the controller...an example would be pushing button 31 and having AH send a system wide keypress event...and in this example perhaps it F12 to TIR...thus, if you want a button on your stick to send a keypress...and invoke responses/actions from outside applications such as TIR.....you WILL have to run the controller software....

Unless you have a need for this sort of outside functionality...kill the Saitek profiler and don't let it run in the tray...you can handle all programmability within AH and run leaner....

Hope that helps....

Mine works just fine. I use it to toggle my clipboard. Dont have to do all that registry stuff. Use the profile editor.  You can also map the mini hat and the button next to it.

Most people dont use the Saitex profiler..... Its awesome check it out.

Let me know if you want a copy of my profile

Also you dont have to leave it running. I open my profiler, load my profile then close the program then launch AH.

Works like a charm

The little wheel on the Throttle, i have set up for elevator trim. The slider,I use to zoom in all the way, by it only works if the zoom toggle is mapped on another button. It has to be calibrated, and when left in the middle position, will give you the default zoom. Slide it all the way up to give you all the zoom.
Lighten up Francis
