Baby Down A Well

I don't have many particulars about this incident yet, but this is what I know so far.

The wife and I heard numerous police cars and emergency vehicles flying at high speed down Highway 425 in front of our house.  She called her sister, who works at the Monticello Police Department to see what was going on.

There is a dirt race track less than two miles from our house.  From what my sister-in-law told us, some children were playing outside the stands at the track when a small child fell down a well.

Apparently, they managed to get the child out alive, and the ambulance carrying the little tyke just flew by our house on its way to the hospital.

We don't know who the child is or who the parents are, but I'm sure they would appreciate your prayers.

As I learn more about events I will post them here to keep you informed.

Masherbrun,

Thanks for the post.  I wish I could tell you that the news is good....but it isn't.

The child didn't make it.

My sister-in-law called just a few minutes ago to tell us what she had learned.

The mother was riding a four-wheeler near the race-track at night, and had the two year child riding behind her.  There are conflicting reports which state that the child was in a child-safety seat or was simply holding on...nothing of any certainty about either statement.

Anyway, the race-track maintains a 16x16 foot reservoir full of water which is used to wet the track down before the races.  It has a small levee around it to keep the water level constant.

Apparently, the mother road up onto the levee, made a sharp turn with the four-wheeler, and the child was thrown off into the water.  The mother did immediately notice that the child was no longer on the four-wheeler until she stopped further down the trail.

We heard that a diver had to be called for to find the child's body from the reservoir.

No information yet as to the identity of the child or the mother.

Regards, Shuckins

If I were a cop I'd say that sounds fishy. Sounds like a weird set of unlikely events.

Those are my thoughts too MT.  At the very least there is some gross negligence involved.

Personally, I would never put a two-year-old on a four-wheeler, in a safety seat or out of it.  And never at night.  Having had an accident or two on one I can state that they are just too frigging dangerous for small children.

At a dirt race track you don't typically find a gathering of the intellectual elite.  Seeing something stupid probably isn't a rare sight.

Lots of "bubbas and sissies".

Dago, that is exactly what my wife said last night.

Unfortunately that type of mentality is all too common and widespread these days.

Any chance there is a reason for that mentality?  Could it reflect reality even slightly?
