New drivers radeon 9200

I install new drivers for my 9200 radeon because they were three years old.  I did not have a problem till I install new driver.  In game play my radar circles and contacts on radar are black.  Horizon was black intill I unchecked horizon in video settings.  I tried to change colors of contacts in the settings but only choice is black.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

4.12 cats or omega's  the only ones that work correctly on that card.

how about swapping from an ATI 9800Pro 128 meg AGP card to an ATI x800 256 meg AGP card


should I switch the drivers from the 4.12s to something better?

if yes, then what is the best driver version I should use for AH2?

I use the 4.12's on my X800 with out a problem. I was told the newer drivers would cause trouble.

I switched from and to the same card, TC. Using Omega 2.6.87 drivers now with no problems. (btw, you don't have to delete old drivers before installing new ones with ATI. Just install the new one and they overwrite cleanly.)

Rolex could ya email them to me? the Omega version?

do not want to sign up for their website if I don't have too....


what is the advantage of the Omega vs the 5.12s  vs. the 4.12s?  if any?

the Omega Drivers 2.6.87 ( based off of the ATI Cat5.12 drivers) caused my monitor to tear and also to throw up white splotches of pixels, about every other time I booted the PC up.....

I tried default settings, tried overdriveing the VPU, tried increasing / overclocking Video...the FPS was maxing at 74/75 and saw hardly any change in view vs my old ATI 9800pro 128 meg card ( 1024x768 RES 512 textures )

1 question, I know others have mentioned to not install the catalyst control center, but you do not get the option to do advanced tweaking without it.....

so is it better to install or not install it? ( note* did not install the catalyst control center with the 5.12 drivers, may do that 1st before going back to test the 4.12s....)

(2) 120 Gig( or are they 160 Gig?) SATA I HD's in RAID 1 configuration
Windows XP Pro SP2
Dell Ultrasharp 19" LCD monitor
Sound Blaster PCI 512 sound card
ATI X800 Pro 256 meg AGP vidcard

( can this 2800 XP processor actually push this video card to its max performance? )

Strange, since I have 800 series card and an AMD 2600XP processor, but don't have any problems.





Native monitor resolution should be 1280x1024 and most likely 75 Mhz. Monitor, driver and game resolution should all be set to those. You shouldn't need to overclock or fool with anything. I'm not sure what you're expecting, since fps should be at or below monitor refresh of 75 Mhz. Actually, limiting in-game video fps to 60 fps may improve smoothness, while allowing you to increase LOD in-game.

Sorry it didn't work out for you, TC, but I'm not sure it's the wrong driver.

Not sure if it was the omega driver or the Overclocking of the Omega Driver  or if it was the using the ATI overdrive feature , rolex.....

The regular 5.12 cat drivers by them selves looked worse than the Omega version...

I went back and installed the cat 4.12 driver with the control center and used your settings, all remained about the same as my old ATI 9800pro 128 meg card

so I went and bumped up resoultion to 1280x1024 and installed the HIGHRES pack and set monitor setting  FPS in the video setup to be locked at 60 FPS

ingame did not notice much if any stuttering but did notice the Framerate was sitting at 63/64 instead of the locked 60.......

around flaming/smoking buffs 5 + fighters it would drop to 45/39 range.......even with FPS locked on the 60 in video setup.....


another question, is your TRUEFORM setting turned on or off ( the pic you posted was cut off  at the bottom )

with the cat4.12 drivers, when I went into the overdrive feature and enabled it, I got  the white pixel splotches again and had to turn it back off and reboot.....

the highres pack and 1280x1024 screen res set at monitor refresh of 75  used alot more memory and vid mem as well over the 1024x768  512 texture size.....

am gonna tweak my settings in the game and stay with the High res pack and 1280 x 1024 if I can get my fps to maintain 60+ even when in furballs....

Trueform is off.

You know, I think those number are pretty darn good, considering your processor. I don't think you could ever get better fps in a furball with VertSynch off. I hope someone isn't telling you to expect more? :huh

I'd be surprised if you didn't run into problems running hires textures, though. It's a lot to ask of your hardware to run for an extended time, and overclocking will add even more heat, possibly damaging the card.

I'm not a fan of overclocking because manufacturers don't set limits arbitrarily. They're set based on average cooling and dielectric ratings of insulation. They've determined that temperature rise above X will reduce that dielectric by Y over Z length of time, and above that limit will reduce the product life to an unacceptable time period. If it's unacceptable to them, it'll be unacceptable to you, too.
