New P-51D--Worth the effort?
« on: March 27, 2007, 11:08:49 PM »
Gents,

I'd like to do a Pacific P-51D since we only have one other, in my squad colors.  Question is since the D-Pony que is full, is it worth the effort?  Would it ever see the MA?  Since I don't do the 8-man stuff, I'm really hesitant after seeing the effort required to make "Fiery Ginger" and not knowing whether it would be accepted or used...

Well there are some P51s of more questionable quality, and it's possible your higher-quality skin might "bump out" a lesser quality skin.

However, I think it'd be a long time before they got around to rotating any of the skins out to add yours in.

Yeah, I had thought of that, but didn't know if a "bump" policy was actually in effect or merely a rumor.

I'd like to do Bill Dunham's "Miss Bonnie".  I think it would be a colorful addition to the P-51D stable.  I didn't have a profile scanned in to post.

Well the "bump" policy is actual.  Two of mine have been added since Jan 2006.

I was thinking of doing that one myself after my two red-nosers are done. Need more Pacific Ponies, and "Bonnie" is about as colorful as you can get.

Treize (pronounced 'trays')- because 'Treisprezece' is too long and even harder to pronounce.

I like them both!

We've got some red tails, some yellows, some other colors, but this would be the first green!

You calling it Stoney, or is it still in the public domain? :)

Funny I was thinking with 8 non 8th Air Force skins we had too many imposters. :lol

Bah, for sheer color and flashiness, you can't beat them 5th and 7th AAF Mustangs and Jugs.

Well, I guess we could flip for it.  Or, one of us could do the Jug and one the Pony versions.  I've actually already started doing the panel lines, but haven't painted it up yet.  I didn't want to get too far into it before I polled the peanut gallery to see if it was worth the time.

BTW, where'd you find that color picture?  That's not even in "Kearby's Thunderbolts".

Which one? The Mustang? Googled "5th AAF P-51 Mustang", was one of the hits. Think it was Jeff Ethells site.

I started work on that P-47. I've got to the point where I got the BMF basics down, but had to set it aside. I've been busy lately.

Yeah, the Mustang.  But, its only panel lines and the 4-colored prop spinner.  I suppose if you claim this one, I could do Billy Banks' bird or Dick Rowland and not lose anything.

Krusty, I thought you were doing "Sylvia".  I've already got an idea for another P-47, but haven't gone past the idea stage (Ditkovitsky's Jug "Josie")

I supposed Ditkovitsky's Pony could also be an option.  I want to do one of his simply because he carried a spitoon in the plane!
