Gigabyte GA-965p-DS3 Help
« on: March 28, 2007, 08:40:21 AM »
I have been trying to install windows on my new system with this mother board. The HD is a WD 320 GB SATA drive. I a using a IDE CD-RW. WIndows  has loaded but the computer reboots itself and will install windows again unless I stop it. Is anyone familiar with setting this up? I have researched the internet and found info on JMicron drivers, and have tried installing the drivers from the mother board disc, but it says there is an error. It appears as if the HD is not being recognized.  I am waiting to call tech support, again this morning. Anyone have a solution for this. Skuzzy maybe?  Skuzzy if you do can I  call you?

Thank you

It sounds like the system is rebooting and you have not pulled the CD out, so it reboots from the CD, instead of from the HD.

After the initial load from the CD, be sure to remove the CD after the system starts to reboot.  Or go into the system BIOS during the reboot, and change the boot order of devices, making the CD after the HD.

Skuzzy I have removed the CD and it goes back to the black startup screen with the last enry being CD Boot waiting for the windows disk that I took out. Trying to go to the HD first and the previous info wont load, the computer reboots.

Are you sure you have the HD set to be the primary boot device, in the system BIOS ROM?

Does the motherboard have a RAID controller on it?  Did you disable it in the system BIOS?

I am not familiar with the motherboard you are using.  What chipset is it?

Skuzzy finally got it done with gigabyte tech support. I was previously told to plug the SATA HD cable into one of the 4 Intel SATA positions (orange on the board) It would not load the drivers, which are JMicron, I needed from the mobo CD, for the HD. New tech support person told me to plug into the purple JMicron SATA port. After doing so the drivers loaded and Windows installed. FOund out the Intel SATA port does not support IDE devices, but the purple JMicron does. All is well now.

Thank you for trying.

Ok, that is just wierd.  My Intel SATA ASUS board boots fine with no additional drivers needed.  The JMicron IDE controller is there for the IDE interfaces.

Wierd.

My red SATA ports are capable of having a SATA hard drive that is bootable.  I have 4 of them.  I also have 2 purple SATA plugs that are capable of storage only SATA hard drives.  You can not load windows from a SATA hard drive that is pluged into the purple plugs.

Sounds like he did something like this.

Motherboard documentation will notify you of this information.

The Gigabyte tech told me to move the SATA cable to the purple JMicron port, loading Windows from the CD drive, then had to get the drivers from the Gigabyte CD, transfer them to a floppy then install during XP setup, but had to bypass setup to install from the floppy. Once installed it all came together and worked fine. Maybe I wrote the wrong thing earlier.

My big problem now is that AH II wont load from the desk top after installing. Originally it wanted to show an error report but since I turned off error reporting I get a small white AH II screen I used to get and then it goes away..

Skuzzy more help please!!

Yep this is a weird mobo for sure.

Make sure you load the native sound card drivers and video card drivers.  By default they do not install.  Run DXDIAG to see if everything is loaded.

Uh, DirectX is installed with Windows XP automatically.  Is the CD we are working with here not an OEM copy of XP?

Yes it is OEM bought it last night. Sound drivers did not install all the way. Forgot one part of it.  But could not find any Direct x files when I did a file search.

Now I have the spinning clip board when the game loads up.  Processor is Intel e4300 dual core. Im looking for the answer, unless you read this and have it.

BTW I downloaded and am using nvidia 84.66 from Guru3D.

Thank you
