Live Ammunition in Training Arena
« on: March 28, 2007, 08:04:12 PM »
I believe I should post this in Help and Training rather than Wishlist because it will recieve -less- people who say 'NO!'.

I think it would help newer players if certain blocks of the training arenas will sustain damage, for example Dueling Zone or Bombing Zone, so people can find the strenghs and weaknesses of planes rather than having to go to the Dueling Arena.  Trainers could fly with the newer players and show them how to take a good shot.  I know people will think 'they can already fire at other people', but it would be nice to show newer players what they can do with their 'handywork'.

The system would be something like this:

The player 1 would fire on player 2, player 2 would explode to die.  Player 2 is spawned back to where he was killed, so he wouldn't have to take off again. Player 1 has the kill like in MA, but no score.

It would be a fun idea and possibly make more people come to the training arena. :aok

ummm...no.

This would have no benefit to the new pilot.

The TA is a place to learn and teach.

The new pilots shouldn't be used as punching bags and it would be detrimental to the learning process.

That's why the TA is set up the way it is and has the rules that it has.

New pilots don't need to learn how to die. Most come to the TA after jumping head long into the deep end of the MA's to try and aquire some skill.

ATM you can't change lethality in certain parts of an arena so it's all or nothing.
You can't guarentee people would follow the rules also and as soon as you turn lethality on it would be a vulchfest unless you had Trainers in there.
As it is, how many people do you see flying through the 'No-Fly' zones we have.
To me it's common sense, no-fly means don't fly there.
Other's see a "Don't do this" sign and what's the first thing they do?

Rant done.
I managed not to say dolt or stupid too.
Far too many, if not most, people on this Board post just to say something opposed to posting when they have something to say.

It is more productive for the Newer players to have it off instead of Live ammo on / lethality turned up or down

nice to see others think of ways to possibly improve the Training Arena though.

A possible compromise to the original suggestion might be to forget having the plane explode at all, or of showing any visible accumulation of damage  to the a/c. Instead, when the plane accumulates X number of hits in the right places a text message appears that "so and so shot down so and so." That way a newbie would know about how much they have to hit, and for the receiver, about how much they can take. No one gets shot down, nor is anyone worse for the wear.

Best regards

I like the idea, with the addition of resetting damage after getting the message. OTOH, it's not something that I'd want any effort put into right now. It's just not that big of a deal.

Can we get this in the MA please. :lol   Actually, it would be kind of fun if you think about it, maybe. :)

Actually I'd rather have something so that if someone joined a trainer his views are slaved to the view actually in use.

Someone can join you and watch you get behind someone constantly. But if they are not looking out the right view they miss the whole point.

Also would dearly love it if they could see your guns fire, see hit sprites, tracers etc.

:aok   agreed Ghosth.....

also would like the option of having a T6 Trainer  with it coaded to where both the Trainer  and student had the option of controllin gthe plane at the trainers discretion....

would make it where you wouldn't have to switch up riding back n forth.......

Agreed TC, should be able to flip a switch, say make it look like this>>>

show him a move, recover. Flip switch, Ok YOUR turn now. Then critique it.

Also we really could use 1 more tool in the TA. Something that overrides thier FE and ends their sortie. Drops em back to the tower, until they listen.

Come on Hitech, its not like you have anything else to do surely.  :)
