Tank Commander Binoculars
« on: March 29, 2007, 03:59:36 PM »
hows about giving all vehicles an option to use binocs with period optics....A sort of telesopic view set on one ammount of zoom and harnessd to the mouse? {from the commanders exterior position}

keeping the views on vehicles similar is a good thing I understand, but this might one day be the only game on my system...so beefing up the little things will account for alot of positive numbers in  the MA I think,,,mabey even a ground war oriented Arena.
Food for thought.....this game is going places.
( thought of it in 8 player while i was in the commanders exterior view in a T34)

I am pretty sure that a tank commander wont be using a pair of hand-held binoculars especially in motion since the vibration of the vehicle would jiggle the the thing to much to see clearly yet periscopes (Which is what many tanks do have) could be looked into

I'm not sure what you're asking for.  You can already use zoom from that position.  What am i missing here?

He means binocular-level field of vision.

Willfly, WWII tanks didn't shake sitting still, did they?
Which ones had periscopes?

They might have vibrated, and I think the T-34 had some type of periscope sights on tope. Not sure though.

It wouldn't rule out a crewmember or commander using binoculars from the top of the tank.. the platform shaking making binoculars hard to exploit is not a good reason to not allow binoculars.

Periscopes would be an advantage to those tanks that had them, if we had the crew/pilot vulnerable while using the naked positions.. but we don't.

we allready have poor man binocs on german tanks, in the form of a machine gun we can man, and use to look around....
the t34 does not have this, so a slow methodical search while at a halt is really quite hard.....

we have zoom but no way to look around smoothly....

The T-34 has a commander position atop the turret (position 3, same as the pintle gun in a German tank).

Zoom ~ 1/2-2/3 full zoom (Z to zoom, [ and ] to zoom in or out) and you gain a full field of view while looking around (keys on num pad).

No it doesnt, germans have a gun that moves slowly, mapped to the stick, the russian cupola view does not, it is mapped to view keys and a snap view,

im just saying map the view to the stick is all/.......................:aok

I'm still missing something.  Why does it have to turn when you can look around using your view keys?

If you don't like snap view switch to pan view.

the zooming options take the place of binocs.

The real deal.

yeah ok, so we are cheating a bit by having zoom, in the end what would please me is to have the F3(commanders exterior view) hat switch view in the t34 changed to the flight stick.

So the direction the tank turns is via yaw movement of the stick, and the commanders view is controld by the stick, simple..., and this would make the russian tank more user friendly, like the panzers/tigers.

It just doesnt seem fair that we can roll with a simplistic commander view in a german tank, and not a russian one.

I asked Pyro about this very thing; it is probably very low on the list of things to currently worry about for HTC, but something like this would be useful, and a little more immersive if done right.

Zoom in and press F8(camera pan).  Then use your keypad 4-6 for left right, and 8-2 for up down.  To disable it swich positions and back.

RTFM

EDIT: for clarity and how to disable.
