I'll broach the issue.  Notice my altitude, the approximate 15-20 degree nose-up AoA, and the object in front of my cockpit.  And, they just kept climbing.  Last ones I saw over the target were passing through 28K.

Ooops! Honestly folks I didn't notice the altitude cap in our orders. I checked the orders today after seeing this post and sure enough they're listed, I just didn't see 'em.  This is totally my fault and no one elses.   Don't hold this against anyone in the 327th or on the Allied side.  Axis, Allies, FSO Staff, and 327th Squad Members, please accept my apologies for this error.  As for scoring in frame one I certainly support any adjustments to rectify this violation to the altitude cap.

I really appreciate how this problem didn't erupt into a firestorm as has happened in the past.  Thanks everyone for knowing these things Do get resolved, and nothing is a deliberate attempt to ruin someone elses fun.

Im curious.

We never found a bomber run into A40 (Caen). Was one ever launched? We did find several Spit's and Typh's. Which I think the CH's made them all wash their planes after capture, well, those who lived :D

Kinda curious though, why the ceiling cap this time with mandated 50% fighter escorts and not for last FSO with full squadrons in buffs alone?

Not wanting to start anything, but it is a legitimate question.

Every event designer has the luxury of Creative License.  The last thing anyone wants is a pre-defined canned design of every event.

Different admins, different designs, different objectives and strategy.

Hey as LW i didn't mind this very much. I really want to thank the designer for allowing buffs to up early this was very much needed. Thier alt at 28k is not really unresonable, and we did knock them all down. I hope they are not penilized for this and the alt cap is removed. The bombs away by T+60 is enough.

ROC, granted....  But as in one that have flown these events for a couple of years, is there a check and balance? And if so, what would that be?  As it seems there have been a few perceived abnomalies in the past couple of months, I'm trying to get a little smarter on the background knowledge.  That way I'm not "flying in the dark" when I do ask questions before frames for my squad.

I was LW.. In AH, bombers above 28K is no good.

I chased a formation of B24s 1/2 way back to England. They were at 33K most of the time, where my 190A5 was barely able to keep pace level.

It is just not reasonable with AH flight model to expect a fighter to be able to attack a bomber at that altitude, because the only attack that can be made is a very low angle rear quarter shot with low closer rate... Basically suicide giving the tail gunners pleanty of time to line up shots... You do anything to change angles and the A5 almost falls out of the sky and there goes your E.

Maybe 23K is too low to be fair, but anything over 28K is just too high for combat.

I agree midnight, over 30k for these things are a bit much.

Last FSO we were going against some buffs 29k-33k and it was just one good pass (if you were lucky 2 passes) before being to low or behind to get anymore shots off.  Hence my previous question on the subject.  If the parameters are solely set by the person running the frame, is there some check and balance for some constants?  Could someone run a frame where the set is alt cap of 5k and thats the way it is?

Buff cap for frames should have some sort of constant basis.  Not a solid one for each and every scenerio, you wouldn't want a high cap in early war where planes cannot reach.

I love flying FSO's, and the guys running them do a great job at it.  But when a no cap on a scenerio with 3 times (or more) hvy buffs in the air (last FSO) and then a 23k cap for the next one woulds tend to make you wonder.  Basically not much of a difference in the german planeset and it was still n the european theater of operations (not pacific).

There are alot of tweeking that can be done to make it interesting each time.  Don't know about caps being broke, as I was flying a tiffy in the mossie raid on the train.  But the 109's and 190's we came across where around 30k or higher (we were at 24k escort).

So set the cap at 28k. That really would be a cap. Another idea is max the buffs bombload and make them take a certain amount of gas to limit their alt.  28k for the highest would not be unreasonable for Buffs in formation. However mossies did go to 40k for recon runs.

I agree, with the 1 hour rule to hit targets, that there should be no alt cap.  It makes for more of a challenge.  Are they coming in at high alt, or risk a low alt raid?  If its at 23k and I know this, seems it gives me the advantage.  I don't have to worry about 7k of air space.

Yea, REPO, we were thinking buffs were otw as well.  That is why I love FSO, you never know what to expect.

      I sent out scouts for our group.  I station the main group north of a40, working the radar gaps.  Our job was to find the escorts for the bombers.  I got reports from my scouts, NE, of bogies.  Once contact was made, buffs were spotted.  My scouts followed them.  Reporting back on their path.  I realized these were not our buffs.  I then commanded the group to head back west as I was getting reports of spits.  Thinking these were our NME escorts, we set course to meet them.  Once we got there, the spits were engaged with our Axis brothers.  I almost released the guys to engage the spits, but realized that this might be a distraction for the incoming buffs.  The spits were being dealt with in good fasion, so we rolled north.  We circled back east, then south.  This is when one of my guys noticed low dots and asked if they could check them out.  I released him and he spotted low typhoons and spits.  At this moment, I realized that this has to be the attack group.  I then released the group and they helped to make quick work of the attack.  Nice work guys.
