This weekend was the annual youth rodeo. My 7 year old niece Rosie participated this year in barrel racing, poles and rescue ride.
She brought home 2 buckles and has a 3rd "special" buckle being made.
Her horse she has been training on was acting up, so they decided to let her ride her Dad's horse, a stud that had been breeding mares up to a week ago. As soon as he got a whiff of a few mares he started getting studly again.
She won the Pole event with no problems. During the Barrel race after she made the last turn he went nuts and started bucking. Rosie stayed in the saddle and whipped the tar out of him with the reins all the way to the finish. She still managed to win the event.
The final event, Rescue Ride, was a team event. She had to ride out, pick up a rider and return. As soon as she picked up her rider he went ape again and started crow hopping and bucking. Once again Rosie never batted an eye and took charge. She got him under control and made it to the finish line.
She was lost to 12 year old boys by 2 one hundreths of a second. One of the boys father was boasting that his boy didn't get beat by a girl. Rosie heard this and ran over to him, stomped her foot and said "If my horse hadn't bucked, I woulda whooped them boys good! They just got lucky!".
The boy's Dad is buying her a buckle.
That's my girl!
