Brits - how reliable is Dailymail?
« on: April 04, 2007, 07:14:06 AM »
I was pointed to this rather alarming article in the Dailymail:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/pages/live/articles/news/news.html?in_article_id=445979&in_page_id=1770&in_page_id=1770&expand=true

Is the Dailymail considered a reliable news source?
Do you know if this is a true problem or is Dailymail just blowing up some singular case to create a sensation?

Well seems we are well on our way to burying the whole holocost thing. people already deny it happened now they stop teching it. in a few short years it will be relegated to a legend that never realy happened because there is no proof.
I would go on but it would prolly offend some .....not that i care really unless it offended skuzzy...that might be bad
Crap now I gotta redo my cool sig.....crap!!! I cant remeber how to do it all !!!!!

The teaching of the holocaust is a compulsory part of the history curriculum in British state schools. The article omits to mention this, as is typical in what has always passed for journalism at the Mail.

Historically as well as in the present,  the Daily Mail is the most right-wing of the British tabloids. In the 1930's it was known for supporting Moseley's fascists and the appeasment of Germany. It was also once a willing participants in the anti-semitic protocols of the elders of zion hoax.

These days it confines itself to railing at "liberal" straw men in society and the media and encouraging the readership to view itself as the victim of the great liberal conspiracy.

To answer the question, it's not very reliable at all if you want a balanced perspective on an issue.  If you want your daily two-minute-hate however then you'd be hard pushed to better it.

The Daily mail is the paper of the rightwing lower middle class, their may be some truth in the Article ,but I doubt very much it is government policy.

sure the Daily Mail is all those things but the sad thing is my original statement is still correct.

"the daily mail is counted as one of the smarter, more reliable papers."

most of the rest of them border on lunacy when it comes to actualy reporting worthwhile news stories no matter which political bananas they represent.

OK, thanks.

Anyway, about the subject mentioned. What suprised me is not that some teachers were reluctant to teach about the holocost or crusades, but the reason for it. It is not new that some teachers allow their personal oppinions and beliefs to interfere with teaching. That would be just a case of a bad teacher, but the reasons given are:
"for fear of upsetting students whose beliefs include Holocaust denial"
or
"because lessons often contradict what is taught in local mosques"
or
"over fears Muslim pupils might express anti-Semitic and anti-Israel reactions in class".

FEAR?
Who are they affraid of? the pupils? "expressing"?

The reason I asked how reliable is this is that I wanted to know how much are the british are afraid of the british muslims and if there a reason for it. I don't remember sever cases of muslim riots in britain or massive muslim demonstrations. Why do they fear them?

Adolf Hitler to his Army commanders, August 22, 1939:
"Thus for the time being I have sent to the East only my 'Death's Head Units' with the orders to kill without pity or mercy all men, women, and children of Polish race or language. Only in such a way will we win the vital space that we need. Who still talks nowadays about the Armenians?"

The Daily Mail is miserable rag of a paper with doom and gloom stories about illegal immigrants, binge drinking and deep vein thrombosis in the over 50s.

Avoid at all costs.

They have a habit of taking an isolated incident and making out it is widespread, while maintaining that 'Britain was better under Lloyd George'.

Meanwhile, somewhere inside the pages of the publication (which are the perfect size for wrapping fish and chips in), there is at least one picture of Lady Diana. Quite often, this is the front page, with a headline 'Dirty Foreigners in Diana Blasphemy Shocker', subitled 'All foreigners must be driven into the sea'.

Or somesuch nonsense.

The question was how reliable was the paper, not whether the incident occurred.

The Daily Mail has a track record for 'bigging up' mole-hills into a mountains. Any British person will remember the whole paedophilia panic from a few years ago. That culminated in a specialist registrar in paediatric medicine being hounded out of her home by vigilantes.

At least that helps you get a feel for the kind of story they like to run with. Caveat emptor.

The Guardian is a left wing rag suitable only for wiping the arses of elephants (it being of the right size).
