Oldies
« on: April 04, 2007, 11:16:53 PM »
I was LMAO the other day when someone on 200 said they were listening to Metallica... and called it Oldies.

Probably shouldn't have laughed. I suppose my teenager could rightly think of some of the Metallica as Oldies.

So, when you think Oldies, what comes to mind?

Here's mine: Everly Brothers

Well, seeing as I'm 40 and I actually met Metallica 23 years ago when I was 17...I'd say Metallica!

oldies, I listen to the 40's station when I want to hear oldies.  I consider anything from 1981 forward as new music.  yet there is music being recorded today which is immediately recognizable as a classic, just as there always has been.

I wonder at times if the music of the late 1960s-mid 1970s will still be played and enjoyed two hundred years hence as much as the work of mozart, chaupin, et al is today?

I'm amazed that my 16 yr old asks me for CDs from my stash because he thinks the music is cool.  when I was his age I had zero interest in my dad's music with the exception of a few tunes.  I remember enjoying "in the mood" and ravel's bolero most of the stuff by the ink spots, billie holiday, beny moré perhaps a few others but mostly I was disinterested.

Anything made before I went to High School (1975) is an oldie.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

anything before 1965 or there abouts... after that I call it "classic rock" or "early pop" or "disco" or "flower power music" depending on the song..

I know, I'm weird

exception... something by a band that came out before then, but recorded after, like late year beatles i still call "oldies"
I don't know what to put here yet.
