Sound Problems
« on: April 07, 2007, 08:37:51 AM »
I am trying to create a custom sound pack and am having a problem with the weapon sounds.  All other sounds such as engine, wind, gear, etc work, but the cannon and machine gun sounds wont work in game.  I made them .wav files, named them the same as the default sounds, and even made them the same file length with no luck.  When a go in the game and fire weapons there is no sound.
Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

They are two channel stereo and 8 bit sample rate.  What should they be?  If I have to change them, what program do you recommend?

Try converting them to mono.  Many programs can do this.  I use Sound Forge and it does cost.  You may want to check out The Shareware Music Machine (hitsquad.com).  There are many free utilities there that can do the conversion.   Do that first and try your sounds.  The sample rate may matter also.  8 bit(which is the bit depth) is fine but unusual sample rates (other than 22.050K or 44.1K) may not work.  These same utilites mentioned above should be able to do the sample rate conversion.

Thanks wiggle, I'll see what I can do, I believe that the sample rate is already 44.1k
