Back on Jan 12th, our club Soldiers of Fortune Off Road (SoFO) hosted SnoFari up in West Branch, MI.

This happened on the way home.   :)

I have a line on a strong running AMC 304 for only $200.   It should be pulled by the end of the week.

Those Rod caps look discolored...Like they burnt.

Oil pump failure???

I'm guessing it spun the bearing, in the cylinder with a missing rod.

Said rod in pan, or is it stuck up in the block outta view?

Frode,  the Oil pump is in perfect condition.    The Number 5 cylinder wall was broken about 1" on the "oil pan end".   This cause the bearing to let loose.   I had already removed the end cap.

Rip, it's an AMC 304.

lol

ive done that at least a hundred times.

(Over rev on cast rods )

what happens is the rod stretches or bearing wears and gets squished out / or starts to spin ..this creates tons of heat ,stops oiling and weakens the rod then it beats its self into broken submission and out it comes ....

ps. your oil pump is now toast  (dont you dare reuse it  , or the pick up)

your lifters/ push rods  will probely have bearing  metal in them too .
