On-line Lock Ups
« on: January 02, 2002, 08:31:00 AM »

I am getting a total lock-up in AH online, usually if I bail. On landing I cannot select the tower, all other areas are available. Eventually, I will get a message showing Host connection lost - and I can then reload and replay until the next time !!

Similarly, I will have frame rate hesitation during play, sometime for as much as 2-3 seconds.

So far I have changed the following components, software etc in an attempt to clean up the problem.

Checked memory using Memtest86. Changed graphics card from Elsa Gladiac 920 to Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 MX. Reloaded base drivers each time and then upgarded to various nvidia drivers eventually ariving at 21.83. (stripped out all reference to Nvidia and Elsa with Clean Reg each time)Reloaded Windows 98. Reloaded DX8.1. Reflashed the BIOS. Defragged drives (both). Stripped out all previous versions of AH. Downloaded latest version from HTC (22mb). Installed (clean, without additional sound files or terrain files) Each time using Add/Remove programmes and CleanReg to remove any left over files (By the way, apart from the short cut and two config files, AH is the cleanest uninstall I've come across yet). Tried reinstalling AH on a new drive. Kicked down the fence, killed next doors cat, generally abused the wife etc etc

Exactly the same result each time

Has anyone got any ideas as to what might be causing this?

(On a final note, I did get a W32 virus the other evening (which is when the troubles first started) but have checked, rechecked and checked again for infected files (26 found - all deleted) prior to flashing the bios and reinstalling Windows. McAfee shows no other infected files on any drive etc)

Any help will be much appreciated

Of course, I only see what he posts here and what he does in the MA.  I know virtually nothing about the man.  I think its important for people to realize that we don't really know squat about each other.... definately not enough to use words like "hate".

Nope - tried that. No Zulusix file in the squads directory. Yes defragged etc

Still the same. I think others seem to have been getting the same problem since the last server was put on line - see there's another thread on it in the Bugs forum
