HELP! Various problems - GeForce, KT7, SCSI, booting up...
« on: January 28, 2001, 06:00:00 PM »
Hi all

Just upgraded to a TBird 1 gig, Abit KT7, 256 RAM and Asus GeForce 2 64mb GTS.  I have been getting the blue flicker bug which many people have described and after downloading the Tweak Utility (and following tips posted elsewhere) it still hasn't got rid of it completely.  Also my frame rate is all over the place, sometimes as low as 30 and sometimes around 60 but nothing too special (both normal flying).  I'm also getting total lock ups on my system and the only thing that will work is a reset.  Upon reboot it may hang (requiring another reset) whilst it is detecting the SCSI cards I have - I have a Tekram SCSI for my CDRW and a Adaptec for a SCSI scanner.  The latter of which I cannot get to work now and when it is 'fully' detected it is prone to causing the system to lock during boot up.  What else?  Erm... Pinicle capture card will just not work anymore and system won't even boot up with it installed.

Anyway, I'm using the latest Asus 5.33a drivers, Dx7a, Win 98, 4 in 1 Via chip latest beta update... I think that's everything covered.  I haven't tried a BIOS update or reformat yet...

Anyone heard of conflict problems with SCSI cards?  Can any previous Video card (Matrox) files that may linger on my system cause problems?

I'd appreciate any help, especially if you happen to live in the East Midlands in the UK (may require additional help!!)

Cheers

Sounds like you might have some interrupts being shared.

Look in your "System" folder, click on the "Device Manager" tab, select "Computer" and press the "Properties" button.
This will show what interrupts Windows has allocated to what devices.
If you see any interrupts being shared (you can ignore the PCI steering interrupts), then you need to either use your BIOS to manuualy select what interrupts should be used for the PCI slots, or rearrange the PCI cards in different slots to insure there is not interrupt sharing.

Hope that helps.  Good luck.

Use the site Straffo posted its very good and the one i use if i get any problems with my KT7-Raid.
Btw if you dont have yet then  first thing get at least a 300w power supply.
And i am very close to you nearly on your doorstep

I dont know what it is with this blue flicker bug but i have never had it with any of my 3 Nvidia cards to date.

TNT Ultra
GEF256 Ultra
GEF2 GTS Ultra

So i really cant comment on that but this is one piece of advice that could cure all your boot problems as it relates specifically to your graphic card,

Why does my system not boot with the Asus V7700 AGP Card?
This problem can normally be resolved by raising the I/O voltage in the BIOS to 3.4v and/or raising the AGP Driving Strength to EA in the Advanced Chipset Features of the BIOS.  See the ABIT FAE advice.

Seems you bought the most problematic of all the Nvidia GTS boards when used with the KT7.

Thanks for the help... I haven't had time to start on the SCSI problems but the KT7 website has already helped in a few instances.  Renaming a couple of driver files has speeded up boot up time no end.

Cavalier, yes, I've increased the voltage up to 3.4 and I'll change to EA later this evening.  I might take you up on your help seeing you live close!  (btw, three of my squadies live pretty close too!).  BTW, I use a 330 watt PSU.

Nonoht, the CPU and VGA card temps are fine.

Cheers
