He-111 Winter Paint Scheme?
« on: April 12, 2007, 01:41:54 PM »
I'm building a 1/144 scale model of a He-111 with my 6 year old and he wanted it to be painted with a particular winter scheme we've seen in the past.  I can't seem to find pictures of that winter scheme anywhere.  Would someone post some pics or links to different winter schemes for the He-111.

The particular one I'm looking for basically something like this as far as I can remeber:
solid white on top
red prop spinners
blue underneath the wings and fuselage, with a portion of it black
a yellow stripe or two on the fuselage?

Thanks!

man, I thought it was going to be easy, just google up winter paint scheme He-111,  boy was I wrong.  I'll keep looking but if nobody finds anything by the time I get home I'll check my books.  I'm pretty sure I've seen that paint scheme you're talking about... just dont remember where

Check out this site...

http://wp.scn.ru/en/markings

There's a few winter profiles, though none of them seem to be exactly what you described (no red spinners). Navigate thru WW2 –> Bombers –> Heinkel He111 –> Germany to see the 5 pages of profiles.

I'd post them here but there's probably copyright or swastika issues. Good luck!

Airscrew, that's the one :).  I'll continue to look to see if there some other reference drawings to go from as well besides the corgi pics.

Thanks guys for all the links as well!

PD- got your email.  We'll make Sr keep your Mustang polished in the hangar while you're away :).  My PC has been out of action so I haven't been flying for that past 3 weeks myself!  Argh.

Thanks for looking airscrew.  I found the following as well:

I think the 2nd He-111 from the top is the one I'm looking but don't have any other reference (top, or bottome views etc.) that has the paint scheme.  I found that on a forum somewhere but have no idea where that picture came from.

Also, a self-correction-  We are building a 1/72 not a 1/144 scale model!

I'm on the hunt for a 1:48 He-111. Where to look?
BTW, did the Norwegian based ones use this painting scheme?
It was very interesting to carry out the flight trials at Rechlin with the Spitfire and the Hurricane. Both types are very simple to fly compared to our aircraft, and childishly easy to take-off and land. (Werner Mölders)
