I'm not trying to tweak your nose or anything but the message you left in the thread was pretty intense. I was just wondering if you might expound on the topic you don't want to see again that you referred to in the following thread? http://forums.hitechcreations.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=203231

I'm not trying to be smart, I just don't want to end up being the poster banned for picking up a bad topic. I don't wantr to post it by accident. Please tell me what to avoid.

I had the same thought and started a thread too. It would be helpful in the future Skuzzy in any similar situation if you stated which topic was getting hit with the ban stick.

There are many topics which can be be discussed on this board without much rancor.

Racial topics are not one of them. Country bashing topics are another. There are simply too many people who do not know how to handle themselves in a public forum on this board as it pertains to certain controversial topics.

And some of the way these topics are presented are to encourage negative responses. Shock posts, as I like to call them. Worthless topics as they are not presented to be discussed, but to incite and enrage.

And they seem to always happen when we are closed. Funny that.

exactly. As these topics are brought up we could add them in the rules section, specific topics of that which we are not to speak. i.e. how to make drugs from battery acid and drain cleaner, how to hack ahII source code, etc.

There are no amount of rules in the world which will prevent someone with no common sense from doing something stupid.

If we actually need rules to cover the topics which are allowed or are not allowed to be discussed, we may as well shut down the board. You cannot moderate peoples behavior.

I think it is sad there are topics which cannot be discussed on this board. But, the number of people we would have to boot from this board who cannot control themselves is staggering. So, let's limit the topics instead.

Too many people have gotten so use to how abused this board is, they take it with a grain of salt. Look through the topics and see how many posts are in the threads which have no bearing on the topic, but are directed at someone posting in the thread. Or how many one line zingers there are, which just amplify negative emotions. Then look at the follow on posts and so on. It is easy to fall into that trap and it is poison to a healthy bulletin board.

Even I have picked up some very bad habits and did not learn about them until I started visiting a very healthy board which has over 1,000 people on it at any given time.

Of course, they do not allow any political or religious discussions of any kind on their board. I cannot say that is the root of the problems here, but those topics definately do not help.

IF this was my board i would insta-lock those topics unless i had alot of time to spend moderating them. The problem as i see it would be in lets say (for the sake of popularity in the oclub) gun topics. The lines between what would be political and not would be very blurry indeed.

there is a reason why white folks have an adage that politics and religion are not discussed in polite company, especially when alcohol is served.

around here there is a cafécito stand on every corner. you can go and have a nice demitasse of cuban coffee and watch true masters discuss politics, deliver one line zingers, get down right offensive with tact and great finess and yet no one's blood pressure gets elevated. it seems to me white folks get bothered by what others say or type far too easily. I'm not trying to be offensive here merely offering an observation and musing that perhaps it's a cultural thing. maybe it's the anonimity that the intardnet offers and some folks type things they would not normally say to someone's face. there are some folks who are members of this board which I'm sure would be just as they are on here face to face, some of them stike me as offensive people, those are the ones I like.

I'm just glad I don't have skuzzy's job.

Storch is dead on correct with that assessment. White folks seem to be less willing to cede a point or yield ground in an argument about ANYTHING.

It is, indeed, a cultural thing. One of the causes is our upbringing ....the way we are raised, and our personal view of our world and the people around us. Despite the protestations of some who see themselves as fair, sensitive and "enlightened" (both conservative and liberal ) we simply cannot bring ourselves to accept the thought that "I might be WRONG."

Because of our history of success we tend to be an arrogant race....and raise our children to be that way. That's why so many tend to see certain topics as having no "middle ground." Gun control, religion, race, sexual and behavioral mores are, as a result, extremely volatile issues.

And...so...our egos and arrogance come into play. One can see evidence of it on almost every topic in which religion, culture, and politics are discussed.

I admit it....I'm guilty of it. It's hard not to be guilty of it when one's culture and beliefs that you grew up with are being derided and belittled by some faceless denizen of the internet.

As a result....the restaints of civility come OFF.
