Made my first solo water landing
« on: April 13, 2007, 02:24:21 PM »
Well I did it, after a few drinks at the bar, my buddy let me have the controls of his Cessna float-plane.  Pretty proud of myself, came in on a nice smooth approach, 75knts, flared the plane, then set it down on the water.  Plane stopped quickly too.

LOL, I saw that earlier.  Was the cause the fact that he flared right before touchdown?

Looks like the tires had some massive drag on the water.

Amphibs need GUMP too.  The pilot neglected to retract the wheels that allow him to operate on land.

Nobody told me to retract the wheels, so I just left them down.  Take it easy, it was my first time flying a float plane.

Amphibs are deadly if you forget to raise the wheels. Nice film of what happens. I always wondered if you could keep the nose up if you pulled back hard enough. I guess the answer is no way.

It'd only work at high speed, but once the speed drops you'd lose the elevator authority.  Which happens pretty quick with such element as water :D
