Hat Options (foot pedals!?)
« on: April 14, 2007, 02:12:43 PM »
Not sure what everyone is doing for their views, I personally have a joystick that is perfect for this as there is a button JUST below the hat that allows me to switch between high or mid views.  But I need something a bit 'more'.

So I started thinking.  What about foot pedals.  The right one moves freely up down and around, almost like a joystick type of foot situation.  (wonder how much the foot could accurately do this or how fast someone could get used to a good hardware version of this?)
The left one locks/resets or unlocks straight forward views.

I know many use foot pedals for rudder but with a twisty stick is that still needed if this were an option?

Sounds like I may have ANOTHER summer project. :)

It would be a challenge to build, but I think the biggest challenge would be the drivers.  I guess I could butcher a current stick or foot pedals and use their drivers possibly.  HMMM

I know some people use track IR but I wonder how good that is when you turn your head alot in game to get a drink, tell the wife/gf to stop nagging etc?

Sounds like a wasted summer to me. Pedals allow you to do things you could not do with a twisty.

Yea you might be right.  I've got too many projects as is, and with golfing and RC flying - I would be amazed if I could even get to it.  Might be something I could work on whenever it's raining and I'm sick of remodeling etc.  But, I really do need another option than just joystick hat.  Wish I could TRY a Track IR somewhere.  No local places carry something like that.

Greetings,

Ebay or their site TrackIR.com.  Fedex does deliver.  And, I highly recommend it.

I use the button next to the hat to look "up", I can see in any direction, and up, using just a thumb.

In another game, you could use the mouse to look around , and clicked a button to reset to front zero view.  Is that an option in this game?

Unless you have some kind of mobility problem that prohibits full neck movement, TrackIR is THE solution to view problems.  You don't need to try it.  It works as good as everybody claims.

As far as turning your head when talking to somebody, getting a drink (I do that a lot), or stuff like that, when you look back at your monitor, your view recenters.  If it's not quite right, you just recenter it with the F12 key (default).  I've got that programmed to an unused button on my stick.  Of course, I now have plenty of unused buttons on my stick since I don't need it for views anymore.  If you're serious about flight sims, you NEED TrackIR.  It is almost as essential as a HOTAS.
