Tuff to have a discussion on these boards-
« on: April 17, 2007, 03:53:01 PM »
A to those of you who possess the capability to engage in a discussion of great importance, without having to fling poo-

Its pretty sad to see so many threads on important topics, closed because many in our community do not possess the capability to have a civil discussion regarding the topic.

There are a great number of intelligent people out there who can express their opinions respectfully, in even the most heated topics- Unfortunately, the majority of posts seem to come from people who cannot.

Lets raise the bar up a couple notches-

i don't think atoon was trying to be a back seat moderator, i think he was just suggesting that people act a little more adult in the "discussions".

How will raising the bar help if a few trolls can close a topic? Trolls don't respond to peer pressure. Their sole function is to disrupt and annoy. I think its a good suggestion for other reasons ( a short good debate is better than a short bad debate) but I don't see how it will keep subjects around longer.

I rather enjoy not having to kick up a notch in here (or on the game for that matter).  Y'all can raise the bar if you'd like ~ but I'll be kicking back with a glass of iced tea over in the non-thinking part of the forum.

I had a couple of posts deleted in the shooting thread & all I did was say #1 it made me sick & #2 I wish someone had killed the fool before he whacked that many people.

I was told by another poster "lets not turn this into a gun debate"

I never mentioned a gun debate at all. I suppose I should have said I was glad it happened & too bad he didn't live longer to kill more people?!?!?

The other got deleted when I quoted someone & answered them. The original post I quoted didn't get deleted so I can only assume it was personal.

If you want discussion, don't go to the O'club on AHII boards because that's not what they're about, it's about trolls & the feeding of said trolls.

But really these boards are no more lame than the rest of the ones on the internet, in fact I've seen worse, much worse. :cry

LOL- This is classic!

Responses:
#1: attacks author of post
#2: attacks #1
#3: tries to get thread back on track
#4: agrees/confirms #3
#5: attacks #2
#6: agrees w/ topic while knowingly calling author incorrect sex
#7: on topic, valid points
#8: opposite side of spectrum, im sure point made is  valid to her-
#9: repeats already deleted material (not that I think it should have been deleted- just sayin)

I swear- this is absolutely classic. Just like in the real threads!

if we raise the bar to your height, half the population couldn't jump to reach it...bloody big vikings.

but it would be nice to see people behaving in a somewhat civilised manner, even if they just manage to get beyond pointing and yelling "UG!" then beating each other with the proverbial rotting femur of a large beast.

While I agree with well thought out, lucid and concise debates are rare here I also have to say that some of the things I've seen on this BBS are so damn funny I have to come back to see what's next.  After all, if this BBS were only organised debates, it'd be pretty boring.  I usually can't wait to see what Lasersailor and Aquashrimp post next.  Debonair too but's he's been MIA for a while.

Agreed.

I'd say more but Skuzzy will undoubtedly find a rule we've crossed.

Why dont we just rename this the Rule 2 forum?  ;)

Totally agree  Diablo- some of the funniest things I here & see, I get from the boards or the game. Thats a great thing!  I still chuckle when I think about the PETA boards-

Ive come to expect from these boards what I expect from people I meet in person.  Some Good, Some Bad, & a whole lotta ugly:D
