Hi all, first post here. Been playing a little bit offline and wanted to check out on the ICS issues before creating an account.

Using a PII-350 as a server for a home network running win98 SE ICS as the router software. I'll be playing the game on my client machine. Has anyone figured out what port mappings are needed in the ICS config to get the AH client to connect to the server using UDP? If not, it's ok, because it sounds like TCP will work through ICS just fine.

I never did play around with ICS much, I'm not sure it can do UDP.

If you can find a place to map UDP ports, that's great news. I think you need to open up 2000-3000 UDP to get it to work.

Okies. I'm going to try reinstalling ICS first. I had ICQ file transfer mapped and working properly, then it just died when I rebooted the server machine. Once I get ICS working again, I'll create an AH account and see if I can figure out the port mappings. If it don't work, I'll try WinRoute lite from TinySoftware. *shrugs*

I had some troubles with ICS on Win98. Sometimes I had to reboot the server box and all client boxes to get it working, and it seemed to spontaneously die sometimes.

I switched to Win2k Server and the new ISA server.

I didn't want to upgrade to Win2K, so I was sticking with Win98 SE. ICS was being a pain as usual, so I went to WinRoute Lite. Good news bad news. Good news, it works with ICQ without changing settings. Bad news, played with port mapping and couldn't get AH to connect UDP with my friend in HtH. Good news after that, is that it works fine with TCP and we ended up goofing off for 5 hrs til 2am (3am for him!). Even though we weren't being too serious about things, we got decent enough to barnstorm hangars at good speeds! Too bad I didn't have my film on, I was lining up a hangar at maybe 130mph in a Spit, and he comes zooming through it at about 280mph in a LA7! I'm already looking at ways to cut monthly expenses so I can justify the $30/month to myself!

Are the HTH UDP ports different to the MA ones? I got Winroute Pro going fine on UDP but I don't play in the MA.

What you can do is go to the DEBUG log in winroute, turn on the UDP traffic logs, trying starting the HTH session and then go back and see what UDP traffic was attempted. This will tell you the port numbers it was trying on.

I'll see if WinRoute Lite has the logging capabilities to track UDP. The port mapping is really generic for Lite. It just maps the port to an IP, you can't specify the type of traffic or originating IPs. I'll check out the Pro version next. Thanks for the input!
