Why Don't We Ask Israel?
« on: April 21, 2007, 03:07:47 PM »
Can any of you Israeli members enlighten Americans about ways to improve our public and school security?  You've been coping with the recent terrorism longer than we have, and you seem to be doing reasonably well, at least in preventing mass murder.

I read someplace where you have something like a civil defense augmentation, often armed with M-1 Carbines?

America seems to need a more pervasive armed civilian augmentation force that would, for example, have at least one teacher trained and armed on each floor or area of a school.  We're comfortable with armed police and security guards protecting us, but maybe we need more, plain and simple.

(added)  Apparently I'm thinking about the Israeli Civil Guard.  Google for that and check it out on, for example, Wikipedia.  Sounds like a good plan to significantly reinforce public security.

Simple... (But impossible)

Go back to having newspapers only... The day of the instant global media circus encourages these nutjobs to come out of the woodwork... By the way, I believe every israeli man is required to have a full-auto weapon.

In this case (VT shooting) what would that be? Have a helicopter gunship fire a couple of rockets randomly into Chinatown perhaps?

Halo, bro, I don't think that the situation the Isreali's find themselves in, and what happened at VT, to be even close enough for relevance.

First of all, the Gunman at VT was a nutjob, not a terrorist. The palestinian's in the West Bank and Gaza are terrorists, fighting for what they perceive as right. They had a helluva lot of problems there, for decades. What the problem that the West Bank settlers have had, is much akin to what we went through during the Westward expansion of the U.S. in the early to mid 1800's, only with modern technology. If you remember your U.S. History, relations with the Indians haven't always been peachy. It was common in those times for households to be heavily armed. I'd also like to add, sometimes better equipped than the U.S. Army of the time. Of course, it's been about a century since the Westward expansion was completed, so since then things have calmed down. The Isreali's, on the other hand, are still in that "Expansion" phase. Plus, they're proximity to several states sympathetic to the palestinian cause put's there citizenry in even more jeopardy than what our settler's had.

Inna nutshell, that's why Isreal has the kind of society they have. And, why more than anything, we're probably gonna see severe restrictions on the 2nd amendment because of VT and other school shootings. Possibly, an end to states' rights, because some states have gun laws that are seen as being too 'lax' to a Democrat-controlled Congress.

How about we teach our elementary kids to treat others with respect and kindness. So them videos of what happens when they make fun of other kids. So them what happens when they leave a kid in the corner of a room by him/her self. The probablem isn't some guy just going nuts, the problem is having kids be A-holes to each other. At my school very, very few people get picked on, and those that do get picked on have about 20 other friends to help them out.

Will since someone was comparing the U.S. and Indians fighting 100 years ago to todays fighting between Israel and Palistin, does this mean that in oh, 30 to 50 years Palistinians will own Casinos in Israel taking Israelies money like the Indians are with Americans?

Its kind of funny how we took the Indian lands, but now they are taking our MONEY! :D

many of you are missing the point of Halo's post and jumping right into politics.

Halo isn't asking about Israeli responses and incursions into the occupied territories, he's talking about the civil guard that they use to protect their own lands.
