Because it was in Norwegian. This comic strip is distributed in many foreign newspapers too, so I guess using the US army was best for recognition.

And btw. in my opinion Mr. Ψverli is poking fun at the idiocy of political correctness, not at the US Army.

I wish I had a better memory or could find where I wrote them down, but we had a list of about 80 faux PC terms at college.  They were written out of frustration at the changing of the school motto to make it "PC" - despite the fact that it was a direct quote from a novel.

Similar to your "correction fluid", I remember our "white out" was changed to "typographical correction liquid."

Then we kept going into complete absurdities . . . the two I can still remember were:

Glasses:  Could be misconstrued and condescending to vision challenged individuals.  Therefore, "eyesight enhancement" is to be used.  To ensure the offensive term is completely eliminated from the lexicon, "beverage container" is to be used when referring to vessels containing liquids for consumption.

Doorknob:  A term that is offensive to the academically challenged, as in "dumb as a --".  Henceforth to be named "Portal Access Apparatus."

E25280, you'd have to be careful doing stuff like that. I'd bet money that if you straight faced, had shown that to some people. They would have nodded and agreed it was a good idea.

I have a suspicion that changing 'white out' to 'correcting fluid' probably started as a joke.

As for the joke, I wonder if modern DI's have been briefed not to be too cruel to the recruits. There may be an element of truth in it.
