Can't Get Past Tower?
« on: January 27, 2000, 10:48:00 PM »
Although I have been able to connect right along, lately I can't get past the initial tower when connecting to Aces High. I can't get the roster, map, fly, or hangar areas. It eventually just times out to host disconnect.

Any ideas. I'm using the same equipement and same internet provider.

I'm going to need you to run a traceroute or ping to us so we can troubleshoot where the problem is occuring.

I changed my Receive buffer to 1 notch lower and it started working fine again. This change had been made when I purchased a new computer.

You go to Dial Up Network, right click the phone connection you use to log on with, choose to "configure" jsut under the modem info, hit the "connection" tab, hit " advanced" tab, and then slide the "receive buffer" down one notch.

See if it works for you, otherwise you will need to do a ping routine like Pyro is suggesting and he can then tell you what's going on with the hops and connects.

Hope it helps.

Pyro

How do I send a ping.
I done it in unix, but I do not have that os on this machine.
I;ve used commands like ping a ip address, traceroute -r, etc.

Thanks for the feedback RangerBob.

Wilcox, I would recommend trying the same thing first.  You can download some good freeware from www.tucows.com.   Just do a search on "trace" or "ping" and you should get a good selection of different apps.  They rate them to make selection easier.  I highly recommend every that everybody have a trace utility.

Wilcox, it really doesn't matter.  Text is easier.  Did you get a chance to try RangerBob's suggestion?

I didn't see anything obvious.  I would try to reduce your buffers further and see if that fixes it.
