I think you should crank up your video card settings.
The only difference between his screenshots and yours is that you're using a smidge of antialiasing.

Ace: What do I think? I think I can't see what you're shooting at. It's merely "an okay screenshot" -- not great.

The target is so far away, and so small, that you only see the hit sprites. Without those I'd never have guessed you were shooting at another plane.

Fight from a slightly older film, but it was a very fun fight, and looks neat, 2x A6Ms vs 2 F4Fs.  Was Spinnich and Ump (A6Ms) vs xtiger and myself (F4Fs):

Merging, X decided to do a crossover and take the target on my side, so I took his:

Saving tiger's butt:

Down to the last A6M, but I made a mistake, I turned around with him 800 off me, and we ended up nose to nose at d600!

Seems we think the same way, and maneuver the same way, bad move.

Wish photobucket didn't downsize my pics from 1680x1050 to this. :(

??? Settle down...

Ace probably the only thing you can handle is a notch of antialiasing (which does make things look a lot better). Just go under video settings on the Aces High start screen.

As far as how far away everything looks.....

Another tip for taking pictures: make full use of zoom.

How?

First go to F1 view and hit the zoom key. Zoom in until your gunsight is huge... I like it to look like this... or closer depending on what I need.

When you zoom on the aircraft from the side you should get the optical illusion that the closer wing is shorter and fatter than the farther.

Then of course check and then uncheck icons.

Then of course just look for cool angles! :aok

I'm going to split this up so it doesn't take so long to load...

The game has most useful options built into it now, there's not much to gain by messing directly with your card if you're not sure what you're doing.
You can't get any more performance out of your rig than you do now (unless you clean it up) other than by upgrading- there's no graphics card settings that you can change to get better performance.
