Just wondering if we have any really good skins for the F4U-1A and F4U-1D in Fleet Air Arm colors. That'd be awesome. I remember seeing one for the old F4U-1D before the F4U-1A came out.

Also wondering if anyone has pictures of the Corsair Mk.IV of Royal Canadian Volunteer Reserver (RCNVR) Lt. Robert Hampton 'Hammy' Gray of No. 1841 Sqn, FLeet Air Arm (FAA) of the HMS Formidable. Some pictures I see of his a/c has clipped wings, but others do not.

I realize that most FAA Corsairs had their wingspans clipped by about 1' 3" for British CV's short garage space but there were a few FAA Corsair II's and IV's that had full tip wings, right?

The info I have (Squadron/Signal F4U Corsair Vol.55 by Bert Kinzey) says only corsair I's didn't have their wings clipped.

One of the resident corsair experts my have better info on the subject.

And a lovely skin it was, used it whenever we ran the Tirpitz setup in AvA.  Thank you very much.

My undestanding is the FAA skins will be accepted. I think Greebo has a few in the lineup already.

sweet - as much as i prefer the PTO FAA colors, i don't really like the clipped wings - looks kinda ugly IMO. good thing it's a full-tip wing corsair!

FAA birds were clipped because of the heights of the hanger deck and possibly the lift to the main deck.  Either way the FAA birds are clipped.  Not that you'd see that in AH.

And it's not like a clipped Spit.  You can tell too much as it isn't much of a clip.

Spit is clipped... FAA planes were more "squared off" than clipped. We're talking inches.

IIRC it was something like 8 inches off each wingtip.  Apparently it increased roll rate - never seen or heard anything saying how much though.

As Squire said I've got a few FAA Corsair skins in the works. Hopefully we may see them in the MA next week.

There's an F4U-1 and an F4U-1A with the two tone grey and sky scheme and ETO roundels. I also did a couple of all blue FAA Corsairs. Lt Gray's F4U-1D was one and the other was KD431, an ETO marked F4U-1A.

I can post some screenshots when I get home if you'd like.

Squared off is a better way to describe them, yes, it was not a large ammount we are talking here.

The main benefit was not from any increased roll rate, although their might have been a slight improvement, but the "floating" effect on final was reduced, making CV landings a bit easier.  At least thats what I have read.
