This, has got to be the most realistic terrain I've ever flied in.
Some people might be thrown off by the washed out look, but add a little contrast, adjust intensity and brightness of the monitor, and pull back the gamma a little bit and its absolutely amazing. Set it up perfectly to your taste and its amazing how different AH feels from the very previous patch.
Frankly, the "feel" of the ground textures are incredibly immerssive both down low and up at alt. At low levels the realistic feeling even surpasses that of IL2/FB - a game that uses advanced graphics touches and some 3~4 CDs.
At high altitudes, the repetitive pattern begins to show, and that's about the only reason that might remind one of how AH is basically an online game that usually uses much lower graphic specs than packaged games. Seeing how AH terrain is modular, this is absolutely fantastic.
Now, the irony is that these ground textures were probably here since version 11 - we couldn't notice it because the texture was too dark and lighting was inadequate. I'm thinking that it probably would have been a shock to HT, Pyro and co. - if they were seeing during the development of version 11 what we're seeing now in this very patch.. man, it must have been an incredible disappointment, because frankly these new terrains, according to what I'm seeing now with this patch, deserves praise and recognition.
WTFG, HTC - this new terrain is a grand-slam home run.
