Was done long ago, with challenges ranks and so forth. Died 1-2 years ago due to lack of interest.
Was some talk of restarting, but that withered as well.
And BTW, this is VERY different from the ranking system. Ranks use a wide variety of statistics, but don't measure actual skills. So, many who get low ranks do so more by chasing numbers than by mastering the game. And, many who are excellent pilots get worse ranking because they can't be bothered to fly home -- they keep attacking till they're dead,
