Well I got the new sight for my new rifle yesterday. Went to the range today and I have to say that I LOVE this sight. Took about 15 minutes and 40 rounds to get it sighted in tight ( consistent 1-2 inch groups ) at 100 yards. On the 50 yard line I was able to get consitent X ring hits on 50 foot pistol targets.

Heres a nice pic of the sight and my new rifle I purchased last month.

Put around 300 rounds down range today and had a blast doing it.

I got a decent deal on the sight, just over $300 plus shipping. Saving up now for a fore grip rail system, vertical pistol grip, SUREFire remote tactical light, and a laser. Not sure what laser I want to go with yet, still looking but if anyone has any recomendations I would appreciate it. I'm going to trick this rifle out. Not that I really need it, but because it's fun:D

How do you like the Bushmaster versus a Colt?

I sold off my Colt Ar-5 H bar several years ago, thinking about picking up a Bushmaster similar to yours.

This is the second Bushmaster I've purchased. The first one was a standard length AR-15A2 with a fixed stock. Sold it when my wife and I seperated to pay some bills off. Killed me to do it because it was an awsome rifle. I replaced it with the AR-15A3 / M4A3. The first one I had I put a couple of thousand rounds through it with no problem. I never had a jam or malfunction. The new one I've put around 500 rounds through it so far and only 1 malfunction, but that was magazine related.

Both of them are/were very accurate, smooth, crisp trigger pull, and very well built. The only complaint I have is the pistol grip on both rifles. The seam from the mold leaves a sharp edge on the front of the grip and in the finger groves. Both rifles, I've had to take a small nail file and sand paper and smooth the edges off to make them more comfortable. No big deal, only took a few minutes and everything was good to go, but it was a little irritating to have to do it. Other than that I've yet to find any flaws in either rifle.

Both of them shoot very well with "cheap" ammo, so you don't have to spend a fourtune buying hi quality ammo for them to go to the range and plink for a day.

I've been very impressed with both of them and would recomend a Bushmaster to anyone who is in the market for an AR-15 style rifle.

Awesome.  Looks like fun.

Just out of interest, when you are transferring a rifle to and from the range, are there any laws on how you should transport it? Can you just walk around with it or does it need to be in a case etc.?  Sorry for the gun noob question :D

Most states require that a gun be in a case unloaded. I ALWAYS transport my firearms that way with the exception of one of my handguns that I actually carry on my person, with a valid CCW.

I have several hard cases for my high end rifles, and a bunch of soft cases for my shotguns and smaller rifles, .22's and stuff. All my pistols I have hard cases for. I store my ammo in surplus .50cal ammo cans, which makes for ease of transport and storage. I also took a 25mm ammo can and converted that into a nice range box. I'm able to carry my small spotting scope in the bottom, targets, tools, cleaning kits, ear muffs, shooting glasses and stuff goes into a home made tray in the top. It also has wheels and an extendable handle I took off an old beat up piece of luggage I had.

When I go to the range I'll keep my weapons in the back seat of my truck and lock the ammo up in the tool box in the bed.

I don't do it that way so much because it's a law or anything, but because it's common sense. Safety first right?

Very impressive setup.  Did you consider the RRA?  Friend has one and likes it a lot.  Seem to be quite a few classy AR-15/M-16/M-4 designs now with oodles of add-ons.

Saw a Springfield SOCOM .308 carbine at gun show yesterday and it was formidable too.  Quite a bit heftier than the .223 and reportedly so loud that extra hearing protection is welcome.

All in all, whole bunch of fine weapons out there.

I went to the local gun store and bought it for $800. Nothing illegal about it. It's semi automatic only, no option for burst or full auto.

Also it's NOT a Navy SEAL sub-machine gun. A sub-machine gun fires a pistol cartridge like a 9mm, or .45, something like that. An MP-5, Uzi, MAC-10 are all sub-machine guns. What I have is considered a Carbine. It's a short length rifle that fires a rifle cartridge. In this case the 5.56mm NATO / .223 Remington rifle round.

Also the M4 was originaly designed for an Army requirement in Vietnam for the Rangers, LRRP's, and armored crews, not the Navy. However most special forces units including the SEALs now field the M4 as their standard rifle because it's compact yet retains the accuracy and power of a full sized assult rifle.

Full length M-16 Assult Rifle

M4A3 Carbine

H&K MP-5 9mm Sub-Machine Gun

And this concludes todays class in proper weapons identification:aok
