So we have the best fighters, working on the best bombers, and best vehicles ever created in ww2, but we are missing recon planes!!! the PBY-Catalina with depth charges, a torpedo would rock, give it maybe an extended range  of vision with a binocular mode or something instead of bomb sites, the germans had  a floating plane too, and the brits had the sunderland I do beleive, it would rock to be able to go CV hunting or recon in a Catalina low off the water, just a thought!!

I smell a troll, but in case it's not:

Go fly offline, take a c-47, drop your supplies before starting engines, take off, and fly around until enemy ACK kills you or you run out of gas.

The end result will be just as productive as "recon" planes would be in AH.

You want that, fly offline, you'll get the same experience, and the rest of us won't be annoyed by it :aok

actually a spotter plane as used by 6 squadron in NA campain during WWII would be handy with th eincrease of GV combat . A lysander would be good as it could be fitted with a single 20MM cannon or 4 50bl bombs or 4 rockets on the landing gear struts.

A recon plane wouldn't add anything to AH gameplay.   We have bombers who can fly across the map already, carry bombs, carry torpedo's, and with the handy-dandy zoom keys you have binoculars already.  As novel as a Catalina would be (and a beautiful bird she is) it just wouldn't get any use.

The only use it would have is to give it the ability to locate an enemy CV and the icon of the CV would appear on the clipboard map until the PBY is out of a particular range of the enemy CV or is shot down. Yet even without the Catalina it would still be easy to hunt down a CV.

weak repetitive troll, but..hey... I'm bored and waiting for new motherboard for gaming rig, so.....

You find a map with the RV-8 active at any base, you've got your recon plane (needs a better skin though).  That is fun in LW.

A-20's and Ki-67's running solo make good recon planes too.  I treat the Ki-67 like "Puff the Magic Dragon" (AC-47) in that role, hard over in a turn and using the top 20mm against ground targets.
IL-2 will work.... and is slow like most recon planes.

For Maritime Patrol, I'll take the Ki-67's again... enough ord to sink a CV if you find one.

I get froggy for flying a Cat, I'll d/l one into FSX.

chek dis shiz nit out. so u want a recon plane, but people say it will serve no purpose. how about if there was a recon plane and what it does is this.

A person takes off in a plane for strictly recon and they can go looking for enemy CV's, when they get within a certain distance of the cv (maybe 5 miles) the CV will be "dicovered" and visible to that country now on the map.

Or, you can type over Country channel the map keypad location of the CV you just found.....or just bombed/sank, if you went scouting in fast bombers like the Ki-67 or B-26..... People who bother to look will see your green icon at/near the keypad location you stated.  You can even type over Country the direction that the CV Task Group is moving in.

You can even use the radio call sign "Strawberry 5" if it helps.

the "CAT" could be used to drop troops, supplies, ect. It would make for a quicker and longer range troop deployment for a CV.
Re supplying from the CV could enhance game play.

Being able to "up" from a port in a PBY seems reasonable too.

this alone make adding the PBY worth it:aok

PBY can carry 2 torpedos, or 2000Lbs. wich is a nice war load.  At least it can knock out the CV radar.  Upping from ports or the CV group would be nice, maybe even add a Japanese float fighter(sorry the name/designation escapes me at the moment)

I've been using the German jet bomber for CV Recon.
