Try defragmenting your hard drive. It might resolve the freezing issue.

How does the hard drive cause screen freeze?  Does it make cents for me to install a faster Hard Drive?

If your drive is fragmented alot... you add and remove programs and files alot... the game will sometimes freeze when it has to "hunt" around on your drive to find the info its looking for. Defragging is almost as important a maintance tip as running virus scans and adaware scan for malware and such.

Unless you have a real old HD, a new one isn't going to show a BIG improvements. Just keep to old one clean  :)

I've been getting the same freezing problem since I installed the new 1024 art pack. Was having no problems running the latest version with the old 1024 art but Skuzzy posted saying that could cause problems. I have only a few dozen skins loaded so they can be accessed from memory and the game does not need to access the HDD.

I'm going to try a few things like disabling or reloading skins, see if I can pinpoint the problem.

Here's a trick to really get the defrag right, if you have the disk setup to do it.

It requires a second partition with enough space to hold the full AH directory.

Copy your AH folder to a temporary directory on a different partition.  Once the copy is done and successful, delete the original AH folder.

Now defrag the drive AH was on.  Once the defrag is complete, then copy your AH install back to the original, freshly defragmented drive.

This works MUCH better than just a defrag, as the windows defragger isn't really very smart.  This method not only makes sure that files aren't fragmented, but that all the AH stuff is more or less on contiguous disk area, instead of all over the drive.

One more thing:  If you don't have the spare drive, you can just copy all your configs to safety, and delete your AH directory, then re-install after the defrag.

I have had the same problem with the new Hi-Res packet.  I was using the old packet with patch 2 with no problems.  However after reading update note to use the up dated Hi-Rres packet, I installed it and now I get frame freezes and stutters.  I resolved the problem by going back to 516.  I hope the problem will be resolved in the future because I prefer Hi-Res.   Hopefully, Skuzzy is reading these boards :D

read some place else on the BBS that the new hirez pack is a bit bigger with the new stuff, so if your systems was on the edge with the old pack, the new pack may have pushed it over.

I run the new hirez pack with no trouble at all.... my aim is even improving  :)

I have 2 megs of vid ram which is more than enough to run Hi-Res.  After I made my earlier post, I read that dumping the cache file might help frame freezes and stutters.  I dumped the cache file and when it regenerated upon my re entry to Aces High, I then changed back to 1024 which regenerated the cache file and I have been able to fly in Hi-Res with no frame freezes or stutters.

Rebuilding the cache seems to have fixed it, thanks for the suggestion.
