I may be wrong concerning your particular problem but I've read quite alot here that problems crop up after a patch that can be fixed by clearing out your cache folder while you DON'T have the game running. Then start the game and the cache will rebuild itself. It won't hurt to try. Skuzzy posted the other day that if you already had the hires texture pack from before the recent patches that you needed to download the new one as well. The thread is right here in this forum probably no too far down the thread list.
