Can torps even hit lvts? I thought they were only good against ships and barges.

Not sure why there is a score for it, but the only way I know of to get a base capture score in attack mode is to drop troops with a C-47, LVT or M3 and then ditch and up an airplance in the attack mode while the troops are still running.  Just sit on the runway and if they take you will get a maproom distroyed message and the capture will be listed in the attack colum.  
At least this is how it use to be, don't know if it still works.

I doubt it is still possible, I would expect to see it quite often by attack top scorers to boost their rank.

It still works, I just got an attack capture this morning.  Can do the same thing with a field gun.

Well if that works it's a pretty lame way to go about doing it. They should just get rid of it in the attack mode or clarify how to get a base capture in attack mode.

PS: AAolds, I looked at your score and it's not showing any "attack" base capture or any capture for that matter. Perhaps it doesn't update in here until tomorrow?

Score does update after each sortie. Only rank is calculated once per day.
Scoring captures in Attack mode just doesn't work.

Check his squad stats.  Attack captures show up there.
