i know im late in here but i thought i'd mention something. the roundels and the star n' bar are the equivalent of the maltese cross, if thats what they still called the black cross on our 109s and 190s wing and fuse.

the swastiwhatsit was a seperate emblem, and not really for the purpose of identification as were the roundels, stars and crosses, etc.

i think.

Like i said, i'm not saying we should put them on, just wondering the official reason.

AFAIK:
In Germany, the display of the swastika in the context of a Nazi symbol is illegal and subject to punishment under that country's anti neo-Nazi laws.  This applies to software, including many games that are sold in Germany.  HTC has customers in that country and do not wish to break the law.

It looked to me like Rogerdee was condemning the sad state of our public school system, not you.

Of course, one could argue that "Finn vs Nazi Swastika distinctions" are a bit obscure for the average school anyway, thus the slam is rather gratuitous . . . but it is SO MUCH FUN to slam them regardless.  ;)

One would think.....E25280

I will relent to the fact that our nations education system is lagging far behind other nations, namely Japan. Where there are no significant breaks and usually attend 10 to 12 hours of school a day.  One day the public and officials will also (hopefully) realize the sad state of affairs.

I thought that rogerdee's comment was kind of stupid and gratuitous but, hey everyone's got an opinion :)

Seriously... Finnish Air Force WWII markings?  That's kind of obscure.  I'd rather kids learned about the Holocaust and Hitler, but apparently SOME schools over yonder in rogerdee's jolly old England don't even teach that, due to the festering disease that is multiculturalism, and spineless acquiescence to anti-Semitism.

On an educational note.....

I would hope that one would not knock the willingness and eagerness of the teaching community. More so condemn the officials that deprived them of the proper tools and time to utilize said tools!:furious

(Not to mention the lack a parents who instill a greater purpose in there children.):(

It is a traditional Hindu symbol for good luck and is still used widely in India.  The Nazis appropriated and perverted it so that it still stands (and probably will forever) for a symbol of hatred and evil in the west.

I stay at an extended stay hotel and the owners are Hindu.  They just purchased two new cars, and to "bless" them they painted swastika's on the hoods.

Now, I understand that the symbol means something diff. to them, but I did sit down and let them know what people would THINK it meant here in the U.S.

Needless to say they washed it off, and put a diff. blessing symbol there.  (I actually had to explain WW2 history to them, and who Adolf Hitler was.  They had no idea.  I was floored)

The swastika is a 3,000 year old symbol representing god the sun or power,it had for most of those 3,000 years been a positive symbol often used as a goodluck symbol, as on some world war one aircraft. When the Nazi party was formed they wanted a Symbol for their party as strong as the Soviet Red star, they chose the Swastika because of it's Indian, therefore Aryan origins. The Swastika is now synomynous with evil, thanks to the Nazis, but it has only been on the dark side for around 70 years, maybe it's time the light side stole it back, and return it's true and positive meaning.

I simply can't believe that. I simply don't want to believe that.

Hazzer, what you say won't happen so easily. We're still "sons" of that war, and the evil that the swastika imply was so strong and is still so near in time, that, to western culture at least, the symbol won't get rid of it in the next decades. At least I hope so... what Lute said is terrible.

Not that I can explain its history, but from what little i know of the swastica, it was around long long before the german war machine of ww2 was,...I think it was a symbol of good luck, from yrs and yrs and yrs ago. Please dont ask me to prove it though. "free advice is worth exactly what ya paid for it".

Maybe you didn't read the thread, Jonny... it's not a matter of being offended (although someone may get offended), it's a matter of law: that symbol is prohibited in Germany and showing it, even in a computer game, it's a crime. Hence, HTC, having customers from all over the world, doesn't want it to be shown in any skin. The swastika in the Finnish skin has a totally different story and it's not prohibited, so our Finnish friends can show it in their skin. I hope it's clear, now.
