SKS mags?
« on: May 06, 2007, 02:45:37 AM »
I have a beat up old russian SKS I use for plinking.  It shoots surprisingly straight and is quite reliable.  My trouble is that I have to manually load each round into the gun, pushing each round in until it is at capacity.
My question is:  Can  I get away from having to do this? It looks like it can be made to accept magazines from underneath.. Is this the case?  Is it much of a hassle?

Thanks for the info.

Cool thanks.

What about stripper clips??  Are they fast and reliable?

Until about 3 minutes ago, I had no idea I could get these for an SKS

I miss my SKS :(

I found stripper clips to work pretty good.

If you feel like spending some money, check out cheaperthandirt.com.  They have all sorts of conversion stuff for the SKS and I'm pretty sure you can get true detachable magazines for them.

You should be able to find some stripper clips at a gun store. They can be reused and make loading the SKS much easier.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

You can usually find a bulk supplier of AK rounds and stripper clips. I still have a case I bought six+ years ago (I don't plink with the SKS as much as I used to).

Also, there are both mag conversions (which I suppose are more complicated), and deeper magazine wells (from 10 to 20 to 30 round capacity) that can be fitted to SKS's out there.  Mine has a 30 round well, and I load it with rounds from stripper clips.

As I've had this one for 15+ years, I don't have any recent info for you.  Russian 7.62mm rounds nearly as cheap to buy in bulk as .22 short.... and a whole lot more fun.

It's been said we have three brains, one cobbled on top of the next. The stem is first, the reptilian brain; then the mammalian cerebellum; finally the over developed cerebral cortex.  They don't work together in awfully good harmony - hence ax murders, mobs, and socialism.

Stripper clips are by FARRRRRRRRRR a way better to got..They way less then carrying full mags..and you can become very proficient in laoding them..
example...,,BUT..thsi shooter is not wearing eye protection!!! and one other vilotaion of fire arms safety also..but shows a good example of stripper clips use..those are 10 round strippers..cost about .25 cents each
