Make fire weigh more....
« on: May 07, 2007, 10:17:57 AM »
I'd like to request that fire damage (i.e. setting a plane on fire with your rounds) weigh more into the calculations of whom the kill is awarded to.

I'm not saying it should instantly be "Oh, it's on fire, your kill" -- because sometimes fighters are still a nuisance and need to be "put down" -- in which case they have a definite claim to the kill.

I'm just saying that I set a bomber on fire and I get an assist, twice in a row. I set a fighter on fire and he flies around, still a threat, and somebody else finishes him off, I get an assist.

Historically, one of the criteria for a "kill" vs a "probable" was visible flames.

I'd just like to ask that, in whatever calculations the game makes, bump up the value that "fire damage" has a bit more. Or, if it doesn't work that way, MAKE a value for "fire damage"!!

Yes I love setting a bomber on fire just to see some idiot come in and shoot him up more and get the kill. Some thimes I wish there was a .votekick in AH. Kill stealing is one of the things that make me wish killshooter was off so I can get the kill I worked for.

I don't think damage happens incrementally from a fire.  I think a time value is set when the fire starts, and when the time expires, the appropriate parts fail.  And I don't think that damage (points) is awarded.

I agree though that Id much rather see it work the way krusty described.

Perhaps create a new damage item, same shape and size as the fuel tanks. Then give it normal odds of being set on fire (so the probabilities stay the same) but make it "worth" more points when its destroyed, and when its destroyed the fireball erupts. The part is destroyed, giving the person that set it on fire more weight, but it's transparent, nobody knows about it or sees it (it probably wouldn't be on the ctrl-D screen either).

Heck, there's plenty of ways around it, I think

No "I" in TEAM, but there still is an "M" and a "E" I see.

If the kill stealing dweebs need that single kill that badly for their nearly non-existent self esteem, so be it.  Score never meant much to me originally, and even less now with the milk-runner arenas skewing the numbers.

You want to protect your kill that badly, stay with it or finish it off, especially for those longer burning Zeke Roman Candles.

What an "interesting" side you take, Ted. "They want to, let them"?

They want to cheat, should we let them?

They want to kill shooter, should we let them?

We don't let them do the last two, personally don't see why we should do the first.

The code was re-done recently for tabulating kill ownership on GVs, unless I mis-read a comment about it in one of the updates. If folks going around stealing GV kills in planes that can't kill them is worthy of attention, this should be too.

There is a lot more I could request about the fire system, but I wanted to start with something basic, and this is important anyway.

The fire ends the sortie. It kills you. The problem is the damage you did to get that kill is only < 10 hits. Somebody with .303s can hypothetically hit the bomber with a burst of 50 rounds and steal the kill, but everybody would know the .303s didn't bring it down.

Yes how it is now whoever has the most hits gets the kill not who does the most damage. I fly the K4 alot and when someone puts a few MG into a plane and I come in and take his wing off with a single 30mm I dont get the kill. The damage model is screwed up and needs to be fixed to whoever did the most damage gets the kill simple as that.

Yah the GV code was fixed. We need a kill system update. I, for the most part light them on fire and leave, almost always resulting in me getting the kill (unless some n00b comes with a Hurri 1 and strafes him to heck)

Spikes....................sin ce when do noobs fly Hurricane MK1s? That statement shows noobness in it self.

Since when did you see a noob in a 30+ eny plane.....ever?!?

I challenge anyone to even kill a bomber in one pass. No fire......kill outright with 8 .303s. It can be done.

IMO a burning bomber full of bombs on a bomb run is fair game. A burning fighter in a furball is just as dangerous as any other fighter....also fair game.

If you wanna complain about the damage/kill relationship I agree with you. Dont however complain about that plane was on fire he stole my kill.............it aint dead til it explodes or craters. You and joe blow are out over the ocen thats a different story. If I see a burning Zero (arent they always on fire?) and its not a threat I say let it smolder. If I see that Zeke climbing to a friendly be darned if its on fire its swimming with the fishes.

My rule of thumb is that if I see ANY bomeber with fire spewing from it, there airplane is dead and I move onto the next.  Fire is a guranteed kill in 35-45 seconds on buffs.  No reason someone should fly behind it and shoot more.  Same is kill stealing if you ask me.

to lazy to read all posts, but i think that a flaming fuselage on fighters should cause an immediate bail out, provided that the plane is high enough.

How many people reported that they kept flying their plane, and trying to get kills as their skin is melting off? I don't think many people would have that much determination.

Maybe critical damge could be designed.

Something like this..

Kill priority awarded-

1.Fire/Full wing off/tail off/pilot killed/elevators

2. Engine kill/vert stab

3. 1/2 wing/1 elevator/

4. Ailerons/ flaps/gear

5. pilot wound

6. most bullets on target

7.proxy

OK, I've posted this in I think three different threads in three different forums the past few days but I've had three kills stolen over the past week or so.  One I totally shot off a wing, another I totally shot off the tail and the third was flaming well away from anywhere he could do any harm to anyone.  In all three cases someone else came along, put him down for good, got the kill and I got the assist.

This is only going to get worse during squeaker season.

I think that type of catastrophic damage should always award the kill to the person who caused it.  That said I wouldn't want to see a flamer be automatically bailed as I've been in that situation before and been able to ditch before dying.

On another side of this, also within the past week, one of my countrymen shot the wing off someone.  He was going down and going down fast.  I didn't realize the wing was off and was chasing him down.  When he augered I got the kill having never fired a shot.  I immediatly appologized and explained that I never fired on range.  There was no way I should have been awarded anything much less the kill.

About the only thing in the game that really bothers me is kill-stealing (although even I used to do it occasionally before I knew better so I can see where over-exuberant noobs will go for any kill they can get).

Please fix this.
I edit a lot of my posts.  Get used to it.
