Bright People in Grey Alaska – A fun photo effect
« on: May 12, 2007, 02:00:59 PM »
Lately I've spent way too much time playing around with a "High saturation/full color people on high contrast black and white landscapes" - black & white color - dodge & burn effect.

Here are my favorites:

Near Gold Cord Lake ~ Hatcher's Pass & Independence Mine - Alaska - 2006

Near the cross at Hatcher's Pass & Independence Mine - Alaska - 2006

Cabin at Hatcher's Pass & Independence Mine - Alaska - 2006

Trail above Independence Mine at Hatcher's Pass - Alaska - 2006

Brigitta examines a weird fish on the Homer Spit - Alaka - 2006

Gold Cord Lake ~ Hatcher's Pass & Independence Mine - Alaska - 2004

On Matanuska Glacier - Alaska - 2004

The colors are too bright. Lighten the color (back it off) and you've got a winner. Softening the pics will help it too, IMO.

I sell "colorized B/W" photos with both B/W and Sepia for about $25 a piece for 8x10's. (I have tons of examples)

You've already shown B/W background examples, don't shy away from sepia...the mother of this kid below paid $75 for a 16x20 print that cost me $6.25 and about 10 minutes of my time:

I thought they were good as is... I assumed that they were deliberately saturated.

It looks cold down there Eskimo. I've always wondered why people continue to live in cold countries.

Still haven't figured it out. :)

Yea, MrRiplEy, Alaskans should move to some place tropical like Finland.  Helsinki has got to be at least 100 KM South of Anchorage.  :)
You’re not one of those poor bastards that doesn’t live on the South coast are you?
